I wish people were more aware of qprs and being more open to it
Romantic love is already complicated enough as it is and this label/relationship can help them so much in understanding their limits and boundaries
Friendship is also labeled less when it’s not? It’s just as important.
All three of these relationship can intersect/ or the qpr is a beautiful mix between the two
There’s also another attraction called “alterous attraction” that fits so well with this
But the aro community is so big; there’s more labels to choose from!
The world is your oyster :)
WAIT WHAT???
IS THIS REAL FAM???

I think I figured out why the phrase 'you just haven't met the right person' has been bugging me since the first time I've heard it's something people actually say to aros. It's not even the fact that those people think we 'just haven't experienced those feelings yet' that irks me all that much. It's the fact that this phrase implies romantic attraction is something instinctively reserved only for that one right person we're supposed to meet throughout our life. If that was truly the case, why are breakups a thing anyway? Why would people get divorced then? Right, because people don't feel romantic attraction only towards right people. And it's not any different for us. If there were no 'wrong people' that changed us yet, the chances are high that the 'right person' won't either. If we are unable to experience those feelings towards anyone, that includes that mysterious right person too. It doesn't matter if the person is right or wrong when we're not even interested in the first place. That's the whole point of it all.
The Aromantic Flag
—Or simply “the aro flag”
Definition: A person who lacks romantic attraction to other people.
People on the aromantic spectrum are referred to as “aro-spec”.
Some common misconceptions:
“Aromantic people can’t feel love?! That’s so sad!”
Eh, nope. Aromantic people can certainly experience love. Just not the romantic kind. They still care for their friends and family just as everyone else. Aromantic people just don’t experience love in romantic ways. Some aros won’t experience any sort of love/attraction at all, and this is completely fine, too. Not experiencing any/all types of love/attraction certainly doesn’t make anyone a bad person. :)
“Aromantic people are like emotionless robots.”
Definitely not. Again, they simply don’t feel romantic attraction.
“All aromantic people are asexual.”
Not true at all. Many aro people experience sexual attraction to others. This doesn’t automatically make them “players” or “shallow”. One can respect a sexual partner without being in love with them. These people are referred to as allosexual aromantic or ‘alloaro’/‘aroallo’. However, many alloaro people are demonized for experiencing sexual attraction without romantic attraction, which is really sad. :( There are so many good, kind alloaro people.
Aromantic people’s attitude towards towards romantic actions is described as romance-favorable, romance-indifferent, or romance-repulsed. Aromantic people’s attitude towards the idea of others having romantic relationships is described as romance-positive, romance-neutral, or romance-negative.
I edited @elamarth-calmagol’s chart for a romance attitude version.
★More aromantic identities and flags coming this week. :)
love contains however much importance we choose to give it? its as important to you as you want it to be in whatever form it takes?
.
Happy Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week (Feb 16 2020 - Feb 22nd 2020) !
Here are a few things to keep in mind!
Aromantic is both an orientation and an umbrella term for those who fall on the Aromantic Spectrum
There are multiple arospec identities and all of them are important and worth celebrating
Being Aromantic or Arospec does not mean you’re broken and does not mean something is wrong with you.
It can be hard for some people to accept their Aro identity but that doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of positivity
Aromanticism and Asexuality are two different things
Aromantic means someone experiences little to no romantic attraction
Aromantic people are allowed to want and be in romantic relationships
Aromantic people are allowed to not want any type of relationship
Platonic relationships are no less important than romantic ones
Lesser known arospec identities are no less deserving of recognition and celebration
Aromantic POC exist
Mentally ill Aromantic people exist
Young Aromantic people exist
Adult Aromantic people exist
Religious Aromantic people exist
You can identify as Aromantic regardless of race, gender identity, age, religion, etc.
It’s okay if you don’t know where you fall on the Aromantic Spectrum
It’s okay if it takes time to realize that you are Aromantic or Arospec
Being Aromantic does not make you a bad person
Aromantic people who also identify as another orientation exist
Aromantic people are allowed to love their identity
Not every Aro experience is the same
Don’t assume that every Aromantic person is the same
You’re allowed to use Aromantic as an umbrella term
Whether you want to use the Split Attraction Model is your choice, but don’t look down on those who choose differently. Someone who only identifies as Aromantic is just as valid and important as someone who identifies as Aromantic and another orientation.
Regardless of where you fall on the Aro Spectrum, you have a right to celebrate this week (and in general!)
Aromantics and Arospecs are allowed to choose to not celebrate if they don’t want to
You’re allowed to love your Aro identity
You’re allowed to struggle with your Aro identity
You’re allowed to have good days and bad days
You’re allowed to talk about your experiences
Aromantic people and Arospec people are part of the LGBT+ community
Aromantic people deserve love in whatever form they want that love
Feel free to add on!
