I'm changing Liberty Lou's strings. This guitar is the only valuable thing my student loan money ever bought me. I've had her for 12 years, but she had no name until rather recently. Last summer, during my final season of baby fever, I decided to reread the first chapter of Christine Northrup's book "Mother's and Daughters" . She talks about women's energy, what we choose to use it for, and how that energy has a wide variety of potential - motherhood being only one of a myriad of expressions. I always wanted to be a mother, but two was the right number for me in order to feel fulfilled, yet still have something left over for myself. That equation will vary from human to human, and urges can be misleading, but I'm glad I stopped to think it through. Now I'm making new music and art constantly, and really enjoying my boys. So Liberty Lou (Louise) is the name of the daughter I will never have; But it's also the name of my artistic reservoir, my daily rebirth, my guitar, that thing that's just for me. #myguitar #deepthoughtsbyjackhandy #motherhood #mothers #guitars #awomanswork #gibsonacoustic #aroomofherown #womensbodieswomenswisdom #christinenorthrup #myguitarhasaname #gibsonacousticguitar #singersongwriter #chicagosingersongwriter
