It's been 10 months since my last blog post; nearly a year's worth of racing and running I haven't blogged about at all. I stopped recording mileage last June--I've just been running on feel. It works and it doesn't. I'm not competitive, but that was never really the goal of all of this anyway. I run when I'm healthy, and back off when I hurt. Overall, it's worked for me. I really do enjoy this and all of the wonderful people and places it brings me to.
2013 was a good year. I ran the Goofy Challenge in January in 1:34/3:32 (half/full). In April, I took 4th place in brutal conditions (33% finish rate) at Zumbro 100 with a 28:27, and ran Chippewa 50k with Alicia in 7:16. In May, I ran a 5:30, hitting the wall hard in my first 1-mile race at the TC 1 Mile, then a 5:31 at Spring Superior 50k. In June, I ran a 3:18 at Grandma's Marathon. In July, Alicia and I went west, where I ran Speedgoat 50k in 10:44, more than double Sage Canaday's winning time. We had planned on coming home, but on a whim, stayed west through most of August, running Telluride Mountain Run through lightning and an August snow storm in 11:54, then Leadville 100 the next week in 27:55. I tried to run Superior 100 two weeks later, but DNF'ed at mile 65. I capped off the year with JFK 50 in November at 8:52.
