Why I love it so much, and why I am so thrilled that I can share this affection through fanfic. Part 1.
When I was 17 back in the early 2000’s, I started college as a young freshman. In my second semester (at 18), I met a guy. Older than I was by about 5 years.
He was my best friend. We had that annoying (if you weren’t us) bond that let us communicate telepathically. A look, a faint clearing of the throat and we just knew what the other was thinking. We were in synch. We were soulmates.
He was also my first real love. But he was a good guy. He knew I was too young for forever. So we were friends.
He had a dry, sarcastic, sometimes dark sense of humor that I couldn’t get enough of, even though I knew it made people uncomfortable. He was the one who was always right, even if he couldn’t explain why. He operated on instinct and people followed him because they knew he was right even if they didn’t like it.
We shared a major, intercultural communication. Think cultural assimilation, exploration, and communicating with people who are vastly different from you.
College was a busy time, but I remember he was always talking about Stargate and how much he loved it. He always wanted to watch it with me, but we never found the time…
