@aleciosun gifted me this gorgeous family photo of our favorite trigger-happy Decepti-squad, redone in the style of WWIIformers!

Soundwave is a Tonschreiber, a military-grade magnetic tape recorder used by the Wehrmacht in WWII.  It was a key component of the German Radio Monitoring Service for recording and analyzing enemy radio communications. The cassetebots are the magnetic-tape reels.

And for a little extra, here's a couple of the brainstorming sketches:

@aleciosun suggested having Soundwave's chest-plate come off as that's how it can work with an actual Tonschreiber, but I preferred it attached so that idea was scrapped.

Originally, the coloring was a little darker/duller. I guess if you wanted a grittier, more war-film looking soundwave, this is the palette to go with.

I particularly love this one where the magnetic tape is threaded through Soundwave's hip. It's so cute! It almost looks like he's wearing suspenders.
