I know this is slightly far fetched but due to my belief that everything including art and film is political I wanted to point this out. I really liked how Project Hail Mary framed the ‘alien’ (Rocky) the ‘other’ as inherently compassionate. His curiosity and want to learn more is driven by his desire to better his people but not at the detriment to Grace and Earth. Rocky does not feel alien because he embodies the best parts of what we consider to be humanity. Rocky complicates the division of ‘us’ and ‘them’ and ends up being more ethical and emotionally intelligent than most humans.
The film and book champions the need for global cooperation, mutual aid and community. Difference and cooperation is necessary for survival.
