details on manish malhotra's costume for met gala 2026 'fashion is art'
"For my appearance at the Met Gala, I wanted to create something deeply personal- a reflection of Mumbai, the city that has shaped my journey, my cinema, and my sense of design, along with the atelier that brings my vision to life every day- my work family. There is nothing like a classic Indian bandhgala- here layered with an architectural cape, brought to life over 960 hours by more than 50 artisans across Mumbai and Delhi. For me, this is more than a garment- it is a story of craft, memory, and collaboration. Dori, zardozi, chikankari, and kasab embroidery come together as a narrative. Woven into the piece are the names and signatures of the artisans themselves- a tribute to every hand and every moment that shaped it. Intricate hand-embroidery serves as references to Mumbai’s cinematic landmarks, while three-dimensional sculptural elements celebrate the artisans of his atelier who crafted the piece. This look is both a celebration and a reminder - of where we come from, and how Indian craftsmanship continues to find its place on a global stage."
Since the Met Gala was last night and I haven't posted in a while, I thought I'd share some of my favorite looks from the night!
Emma Chamberlain - Wearing a custom Mugler gown hand-painted by Anna Deller-Yee. Honestly, the best look of the night in my opinion. Like she gagged everyone else, this look is incredible. This look was inspired by artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch!! Not only by these two artists though, as Chamberlain was also inspired by her painter father.
Sabrina Carpenter - Wearing a Dior gown designed by Jonathan Anderson. This one has some lore. She's wearing a dress made from film strips from the 1954 film "Sabrina". Audrey Hepburn stars in this movie, and it just so happens that yesterday was Audrey's birthday! (I may be a bit biased because I love Sab, but it was also very interesting). I love all the details and how her mind works!
Isha Ambani - Wearing a gown designed by Gauray Gupta in collaboration with Swadesh. Everything about this is just a yes. Like, it's perfect. The jewels on her dress belonged to her mother!! Not only that, but the mango accessory is a 20-year-old metal sculpture created by renowned Indian artist Subodh Gupta.
SZA - Wearing a gown designed by Emily Adams Bode Aujla of BODE. This is so her, and so glowy, and I love it!! She is radiant in this dress. This gown also includes over 100 yards of vintage fabric sourced from eBay!!
Hunter Schafer - Wearing a Prada gown designed by Miuccia Prada. This was inspired by Gustav Klimt's 1912/1913 painting Mäda Primavesi. Hunter is stunning every single time but she looks like a PRINCESS here.
Anok Yai - Wearing a custom Balenciaga look designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli. Inspired by "Our Lady of Tears". Such an elegant look and her makeup was GORGEOUS but also she's just gorgeous in general!!
LISA - Wearing a custom creation by Robert Wun. She looks like a celestial princess and I'm honestly living for it!! Also, the extra arms are her actual arms, 3D scanned!
Eileen Gu - Wearing a custom Iris van Herpen "Airo" dress. I lovveee this because the dress is essentially a big bubble machine and I think that is just so creative and cute!!!
Doechii - Wearing custom Marc Jacobs. She made my jaw DROP. This is an insane look, it's definitely in my top 3 of the night. I like her riskiness, people who aren't afraid to show some skin!! She's owning this look.
La La Anthony - Wearing a custom Wiederhoeft gown. Also, the hair over the eye?? She said she was going for a ginger Jessica Rabbit and she definitely nailed it!! She is so so beautiful.
I also liked Connor Stories’ look, those muscles were POPPING and he just looked beautiful. but tumblr only allows 10 photos so I couldn’t add him to my list :(
Just imagine you have a friend who is theatric kid
He works as a waiter. Sometimes he he takes part in local art projects, one of them was a month-long shoot for a small, low-budget show with a very limited audience.
Okay, filming wrapped and for a while life went back to normal. Until almost year later the what meant to be a niche show exploded into huge cultural phenomenon. The broke guy who'd chipped in for pizza at your movie night a year ago now is sitting on the couch next to you on your movie night again but showing you pics and videos from the Oscars, Golden Globes and Met Gala with people you've seen on the screen.
Blows my mind off.
