Art Progress (for like the past 9~ years)

Just doing this meme to see how far I've come this year in terms of my art, and I have to say I'm really loving the growth I've made. Towards the end of last year I had made it my goal to work on improving my digital art skills and I'm pleased to have seen that I have fulfilled that goal in a lot of ways. I've drawn all kinds of things I've never done before and really worked hard to do more complex backgrounds, and I've really grown to have more confidence in my artwork! I've also been playing around with my shading style a lot this year and have really simplified it down as other aspects of my art get more complex! XD

I of course still have a lot of ways to go before in my artwork but I'm glad to be seeing this growth and I hope to see more of it over the rest of 2024.

Picking which images to have for each month was really tough as again I've made a lot of pieces I feel really proud of! XD

Oh boy, annual traditions. Nothing screams "passage of time" quite like wraps.

The shortcoming of meme formats like these is sometimes art is in bursts: Tons in one month, then nothing for weeks. I did do a single scribble in Dec, but felt like it was more important to include multiple Oct pieces. (I also started the Mauve x Lloyd piece in Sept, so I bumped it backward even though I finished it in Oct.)

I turned 26 this month, but I want to celebrate reaching a different milestone instead. I returned to an old Deviantart meme I last did in the middle of 2015. It has been seven years, lol. Anyway, I'm celebrating my 15th anniversary in illustration. Fifteen years of self-taught. Fifteen years of continuous improvement. Fifteen years of recovery.

The rest of this will get a little downer, so fair warning: Mental illness mentioned.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing my art evolve in the next five years.

I studied as a graphic designer in high school and my college career because the organization of shapes and colors on paper usually amazes me. The idea of designing a complete package is more interesting than a stand-alone image.

The next exciting thing is comics. So why illustrations? The obvious answer would be to get better at drawings to create comics. The honest answer is wanting to communicate with others when my lips failed me the most. I faced traumatic experiences when I was four/five years old physically, mentally, and emotionally. I shut down when I was in 7th grade. At that time, the only solution I came to was to end myself. Therapy; I've gone to single, and group sessions did not help, mainly because they pushed me into that position. I did not seek help. I did not ask for help. So my stubborn-self fortitude walls and the continuous self-hate and rage grew stronger.

I tried to redirect these emotions by taking an interest in drawing, a form of interruption to the train of thought. Thus, the start of drawing fan comics and fan art.

I would be lying that drawing frequently didn't come to a few strides of issues. It now becomes a profession, and one of my goals is to be a full-time comic artist. A respectable salary will be tricky, especially in this economy, lol. However, it has been 15 years of improving my skills. These skills double my life span instead of stopping me at twelve.

I cannot wait to see where my art takes me in the next five years.

Art Progress 2019

It has been two years now since I started this art blog, and it’s interesting to look back on what it’s become. I feel that my art abilities have improved leaps and bounds, especially in the realm of character design. In this past year, I did several sets of art requests and collaborations. I participated in challenges such as Inktober. I started playing Dungeons and Dragons, creating characters that will forever be close to my heart, and even started running my own campaigns!

In the coming year, I am reaching a number of unique milestones. I will be graduating high school and moving on to university. This last semester, I will be taking an art class at my high school for the first time! I’m really excited to see how it goes. 

In this past year, I have begun to discover an aesthetic that I really enjoy. However, the ratio of reblogs of other people’s art and photography to my own original posts is not one that I am happy with. In 2020 my goal is to adjust this. Although my schedule is about to undergo significant changes, I hope that I can be more active as a creator. It would make me very happy. I hope everyone has a healthy and fortunate new year!
