Dying

Hello there!

I promise this is related to dying. In some way. 

I am an artist ready to work, ready for submissions and commissions. I’ve had a few in my day and they’ve gone really well. However it’s never been from Tumblr or Deviant Art, it’s been from outside sources. 

People keep asking for free art and I have to explain to them that I can’t do things for free. I’m not a charity. I’m trying to make a living. In life I have very limited options for income, it’s tough. I have to put in so many hours for small pay. 

Compared to the industry standard, I’m selling myself very VERY short. I’m selling characters for $5, and people can’t afford that but can afford their new iphones, games and branded clothing. Meanwhile I’m living as cheap as I can. My pantry is made of ramen, beans and pasta, that’s all I can afford for myself. 

I’m not here to be preachy or bitchy, I just want to explain how I can’t work for free, how NO artist should work for free. 

How is this related to dying? Art and the artists will die if people keep wanting work for free. Just like how a surgeon, a firefighter, a teacher can’t work for free, neither can an Artist. 

Without Artists, everything around you, wallpaper, fur nature, your cool posters, shirt designs - all of that wouldn’t exist.
