Let go of my mooring
Just One
there are so many lives I want to live.
i’d like to be self-sufficient, living on a farm in a field, surrounded by heavy forests, with a large garden and an orchard at the back, a couple of cows peacefully milling around the edges. i would study history and make pies and stews, focusing my energy on living a fruitful life and caring for the loved ones around me.
i’d like to be an archeologist, toiling through the sand and dirt and heat to uncover incredible discoveries, and photograph them, all while I drink hot chai out of a thermos because it’s the only way I’ll drink caffeine. my work would be practical and passionate, but i would spend my free time writing comics about atlantis and gothic spirits and the passing of time. i would be comfortable with death.
i’d like to live as a self-made mogul, a business and marketing genius who is equal parts cunning and ruthless, but who owns disabled animals and cares for them so lovingly i embody sunshine. my apartment would always be flooded with natural light, and there would be innumerable places to hide and sleep. comfort is key, and an investment, not an expense.
i’d like to be married to the man I met outside a pub in Belfast at 2 am. our children would have his smile and my eyes, and we’d live quietly, but be filled with love and affection, and we’d have our children over for dinner every sunday as we all grew old together. we would have had our trials early on, and our adventures, but we would fill our whole lives with care and appreciation, coincidentally passing away on the same day, because it just made sense that way.
i’d like to live a lot of lives, but i can only live one, and i’m not sure which one is the right one for me.

03.15.18 Day Of Productivity 2/100
Took a day trip to Heaver Castle! Practiced my photography and editing and enjoyed myself, so not ridiculously productive but worked on a skill I enjoy so that’s good enough!

This short story or whatever was inspired by a post by @littledarkfairywitch (which I apparently can’t find anymore) about how the sun, moon, and ascendant signs determined characteristics of mythological creatures. Anyways, it’s rough, but it’s practice!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her glittering gave her away and she knew it. During the day she was able to mix in with regular humans, but the moonlight would always give her away. That meant no late night movies, no going to pubs with her “before” friends, no ordering drunk food and dancing near windows. Ellie knew that she was luckier than most, given her ability to be inconspicuous, but being a daughter of the moon was not particularly easy.
She could feel Natasha’s anxiety radiating from three decks below, and she knew that she would come up to find her shortly. Ellie didn’t mind, she always joked that Tasha was her soulmate. But, she was enjoying her time alone. It helped her restore her emotional controls and energy.
“Ellie?” Natasha’s overwhelming anxiety washing over Ellie likes waves on the shore. Ellie reached out her hand to her friend, already sending out soothing energies. As Natasha got closer her anxiety continued to wane. She clambered in the lifeboat, settling in next to Ellie, watching her watch the moon.
“I think we’re burning through the LED lights too fast. And I think the crew is going to notice all of the electricity we use in our room.” Natasha rubbed her horns, scratching at the tips. Eloise lazily began to trail her nails along Natasha’s hands, humming in agreement.
“I know. We have to keep her alive, though. We’re almost to the islands. We just have to keep her stable until we can get her to Herman. He can take care of her from there.” Ellie still wasn’t looking at her friend, she was watching the dark ocean move beneath them. She wished she could just dive into the ocean and keep swimming until it swallowed her.
“She’s shedding too. I don’t know what to do with her scales. And how long can we put off the housekeeping?” Natasha wrapped her arms around her knees, placing her head on her arms. Unknown to her she had a few gold and green scales stuck to the back of her shirt.
Ellie threw an arm around her friend, resting her head against her horns. “Housekeeping will leave us alone as long as we ask. And I can always take the trash out during the day. We’ll could also just dump her scales over the side of the ship, which we can do at night. We’ll figure it out, Tash. It’s just the simple matter of doing it.”
Natasha leaned into her sparkly friend, feeling more comfortable than she had in days. “I know. I’m just worried for her. And for us.”
Ellie hummed again, closing her eyes, and enjoying the moonlight on her skin.
Below deck, in a small cabin toward the back of the ship, a dark haired girl shivered, shaking loose a few sharp scales. She was wrapped in layers of blankets and lay stuffed beneath as many LED lights as the other girls could steal on board. She looked sickly, and had not woken up in days. She was always petite, but in this state Lucia appeared childlike and wilted. Without proper sunlight and care she would wither away to nothing, and Ellie could feel her life slowly slipping away.
~
Eloise retched as her hands transformed into claws. Their blue color and outer spines freaked her out each time this happened. She hated crabs. The moon’s a cruel bitch.
“Elle, now is LITERALLY not the time.” Tash was locked in combat with a son of Venus; his horns were swiping at her as she jumped agilely out of the way. A member of the Righteous, a part of their ever growing legion. His massive hands were proving to be a bit more difficult to navigate as they grabbed her, twisting her entire body like a massive Indian sunburn.
“Oh what the FU-“ Tash screwed up her eyes and spawned a duplicate, it jumped on the Taurus’ back, smashing his head repeatedly with a heavy metal telescope until he dropped Natasha.
“They’re disgusting and you can’t tell me otherwise!” Ellie pushed her horror down and leapt through a portal to Katrina’s side, who was using her own doubles to confuse a daughter of Pluto and Mars, a monstrous creation with a scorpion tail. Ellie grabbed the appendage with her claws, ripping the stinger off. As the woman screamed Eloise plunged the danger into her back, channeling all the poison back up into her system, shutting her body down immediately.
“Please tell me why we live like this?” Ellie yelled to Katrina as she dashed through another portal, materializing on the other side of the deck in time to jam a vial of toxins down the throat of a son of the Moon, who was attempting to make it below deck. His throat dissolved and he fell at her feet, convulsing.
“I dunno, we’re only follow you, oh fearless leader.” Susannah quipped as she rushed by, throwing moon beams at a daughter of the Sun who was clearly not faring well without the use of her powers.
Ellie growled and jumped through yet another portal, sliding along the deck and clipping enemies Achilles tendons as she flashed by.
“Honestly –“ another portal,
“why do we even –“ and another,
“do this!”
She landed in the middle of the deck, the unit sent after them crippled at her feet. Her crew were all sitting or leaning against the ship’s railing, just watching her.
“This is all bullshit and I know you all know that. It’s pure SHIT. What are we even doing? What’s our fucking purpose?” Her hands transformed back, her long fingers splayed as she threw her hands about. Her skin glowed more intensely with her anger, she was practically a beacon in the night.
Natasha came up behind her, blood dripping down her horns, and wrapped her uninjured arm around Eloise. “You know why we’re here. You know that if you don’t do this then no one will.”
Ellie wilted, the weight of Tasha’s truth pushing on her shoulders.
“Atlas was a bitch.” She whispered to her friend, knowing full well that she was right. If she, and her crew, didn’t try to get these siblings out of Pandemonium before the Righteous or the Cross got them then they would never have a life, chance, or free will. And that’s something she was willing to die for.
Calming her emotions she reached out to feel Lucia below deck. Her heartbeat was weak but unbroken. Taking a deep breath she took in the sea and the salt air, shaking off Tasha’s grip and walked further into the carnage. “We’re going to dump them into a lifeboat and push them out to sea. I won’t slaughter them today, but I will tomorrow if they return. Suz, you’ll manipulate the current and send them to the nearest piece of land.”
The crew shrugged off their exhaustion and piled the injured and dead into lifeboats, setting them on their course with little more than a curse. This was going to mean a lot of exhaustion and repairs. Ellie, using the last of her strength, reached out and influenced all of her crew, sending them feelings of calms and contentedness. She would stand there on the deck, staring at the moon, influencing her friends until they all fell asleep and she collapsed on the deck.
I’m not sure I know what ‘home’ is anymore
