i saw fantastic beasts and spoilers under the cut
Okay so my theory re: Queenie is that is that her legilimancy isn’t the same as casting the legilimens spell, it’s an innate ability, like Trelawney’s ability to predict the future. Sure, there are spells you can do to get to the same thing, but sometimes you can’t help it and something bursts out of you, be it a prophecy or someone else’s thoughts.
but that’s exactly what bothers me is that the legilimens spell has already been established, so having someone perpetually casting it makes almost no sense?? and even with trelawney’s prophecies, the ability wasn’t something happening constantly, she made a grand total of two recorded prophecies throughout the entire series. Like I get that it’s a magical world and they can essentially use it however they want, but it really bothers me that they broke their pre established canon for the sake of lazy writing. 90% of Queenie’s legilimency could have just been replaced with her being very perceptive (I see her compared to Luna a lot and I agree - she had that same sort of truthiness to her without the legilimency). The only time it was used for plot reasons was to rescue tina and newt, and that could have been done in a different way. Idk, I just feel like if you’re going to break the canon, you should have a better reason for doing so.
