I saw one of my favorite beach organisms today -- the Western sea slater, Ligia occidentalis. These furtive scavengers inhabit the high tide line, darting between rock crevices, their sharp claws providing easy purchase on the rough sandstone cliffs at Salt Point State Park in Sonoma County, California. Large, well-developed eyes offer a wide view of their surroundings, and long probing antennae help direct them to food. Ligia are basically just large, sporty, all-terrain woodlice, only slightly less divorced from the sea than their inland relatives. They must regularly wet their gills with seawater -- wicking it up from rock pools with their long tails -- but are otherwise fully terrestrial, and will quickly drown if submerged. They spend their entire lives among the rocks and cliffs of the splash zone.

The time of pretend control of the land from the ignorant and oblivious deuterostome is coming to an end. They have failed to please our protostome overlords in taking care of the precious land and in doing so have disrupted the plans of our benevolent overseer’s to travel to new worlds to spread their beautiful visionary mission for universal peace. After seeing the pitiful display the ass donuts have exhibited upon the lands the protostome council have decided to end this era by raising the C02 levels and bringing about the next ere Carboniferous 2(C2). Fortunately, while most non perfect lifeforms will perish, during the C2 period our overlords have decided that some allotment of recognition will be set aside for the select few species and individuals who have entertained them or those who have performed a satisfactory job within their role. You have been informed.
