It’s been so long since I first shared my story and I’ve gotten so many more followers since then too. So here’s my story… * My name is heather. I’m 33, married to an amazing husband and we have 2 cats. Soon we are planning on buying our first house together in a different state. I was born with rheumatoid arthritis, diagnosed at 18 months old. Growing up with arthritis was very difficult and I didn’t always fit in because I couldn’t do the same things kids my age were doing. I’ve been on many different medications - methotrexate, Naprosyn, prednisone and many others. Nothing helped until I stated humira. Humira gave me a life. Since taking humira I’ve gone back to work though I’m still limited on what I can do. In 2020 right before the pandemic hit my area my ra was in remission for the first time. I was the healthiest I’ve ever been. The last year though I’ve gone back to being anemic and inflammation is up. Set backs happen and that’s okay. I started this account as an outlet for people like me. For the kid growing up with arthritis who needs someone to look up to. I started this account not knowing what I was really getting into. It’s become so much more than I could have hoped for. Knowing I’ve helped people along the way and advocating for arthritis and so many other diseases and illnesses. I also have anxiety, depression, chronic migraines, ovarian cysts and hearing loss in my right ear that will eventually require a hearing aid. Accessibility and equality

I have no idea how any one is a benefits cheat or commits disability fraud!! Aside from the (important) moral issue, it's frigging hard to fill out these ridiculous forms and questions!!

I would understand the rigorous process, yet they end the complicated application with wanting additional proof off you and your doctors anyway - why not just get my basics and that info first. Seems a back to front approach. Completely exhausting!!

What's worse is I completed all these forms last year and still have to go through the same process just for a renewal! Grrrr :|

I just hope it's all worth it in the end!

Dear Everybody and Nobody, 

In English we are doing this project called Genius Hour. Basically, it’s a project that allows us to change the world through things we feel passionate about. One of the processes for this assignment, it that we blog our progress via Blogger. Our first blog post was due a few weeks ago, but I thought I’d share it on my personal blog today. So I hope you enjoy!

This is my first (and forced…) blog post. I’m a junior at HSE high school where I am involved in the peer tutor program. It has taught me the value of patience, the importance of being there for someone in need, and more importantly my new friends have taught me so many valuable life lessons. I have learned and first handedly witnessed how cruel people can be to those who may act or look “different”, myself included. Because of this, I finally realized that it’s not humanly impossible to please everyone, fortunately this was somewhat of a relief. Ultimately, this is confirmation that it is perfectly alright to be yourself despite common misconceptions. Once you have this realization and actually take it to heart, you began to feel better about practically everything. Trust me… 

Besides being a peer tutor, I honestly despise high school for countless reasons. But college is just around the corner and that is exciting. Since I’m a junior this year, there is specifically so much pressure on this year of high school. I have found a passion for occupational therapy for multiple reasons. One being I can help a person live an independent life which essentially, is what everyone’s goal is. Nobody wants to be forced to rely on others to simply perform basic life functions. Another reason I am persuaded to follow this specific career path, is how much Grandad’s physical and occupational therapists helped him when he needed it before he passed away on Thanksgiving last year. I remember how stubborn that man was, so just imagine how he acted when he was struggling to simply walk and eat. Even with his stubbornness and the resentment towards them, the therapists understood his situation and emotions and still treated him like a king. While I’m genuinely sure about Occupational Therapy, I’m not exactly sure where I want to go to college, however, I have narrowed it down to attending a christian college. Also, lately I’ve been wondering if after college I want to travel to a struggling country and possibly see if my work will be more beneficial there. I have a lot of figuring out to do, however I am absolutely positive that I am going to pursue something that can help me accomplish my goal of helping others.      

To be completely honest I don’t have that many problems in my world. I mean don’t get me wrong, having an autoimmune disorder as well as a chronic illness isn’t exactly your average teenager problems, but I can deal with that. Actually in a weird way I’m glad I deal with it. Since I have to deal with it, that could mean that one less person has to suffer and can lead a normal life. But all of my every day problems, however, consist of selfish and needy desires. When I think about my daily struggles and say them out loud, I instantly realize how pathetic they sound. There are so many people that are struggling to simply eat one meal a week and here I am complaining about my chores. It’s kind of embarrassing when you really think about it.

I believe that we, as people, have the power to change the entire world for better if it weren’t for our laziness, greediness, selfishness, and general arrogance. If everyone just put the pity problems aside and worked together, the world could and can drastically change…
