Ursa Major! Available on Etsy Now!

A little bit about this piece. I think I’ll start doing this from now on for anybody who wants to hear a bit. This piece pulls references from Native American culture, the totem of the bear is supposed to represent leadership and courage. Also, the Shamanistic and Warrior cultures of donning a pelt is supposed to inspire qualities of the strength and wit of the animal they invoke. Here, we have a woman donning the pelt of a bear, inspiring the strength and might of a gender. The stars above her forming Ursa Major, an extending constellation of the Big Dipper. The mountains below her, the resolve, support, and strength as a foundation. Anyway you look at it, the piece is about empowerment. Her totem like appearance makes her a figure head. She’s meant to be an emblem of strength.  I’ve found I use a lot of female figures in my work. First off I wanna say I’m a guy, but I’ve found my use of female figures to be rather otherworldly, and about the empowerment of a gender. I hope everything comes off that way in these pieces. Daily Drawings, 5/31 and 6/1, Hands and Feet

Always, always, always draw hands and feet. It doesn’t matter how good you get at drawing if you can’t handle the hands and feet. These are important, complex forms that should be given proper attention, because NOT giving them proper attention will ruin your drawings. Believe me, I have plenty of old drawings that are absolutely terrible due in large part to an eyesore of a hand, or the feet being cut off from the page. 

Feet are a really important thing to figure out how to draw, along with hands. They're the extremities of the figure, and, unfortunately, that means they're ending points for a figure drawing, making them extremely important in being correct, if they're rendered at all.

Whale Song, Daily Drawing, May 25th

I'm not really sure about the title, Whale Song feels like where this piece is GOING towards, but this isn't Whale Song quite yet. I'm liking the direction I'm taking this week, it's been fun so far. I like the more dynamic upper torso with the static hip area, I think it makes everything just a bit more interesting. Anyhow, here’s another daily drawing, I’m hoping to post the other one and finally catch up, but I never seem to have the time to stop what I’m doing to post on everything v.v

A Cycle of Moths, 2018, Available on Etsy Here!

This is an ink drawing, with a few minor digital edits and clean up. This is the precursor to the Migrations IV Print, which will be available sometime this year! This piece will have limited availability, with only 100 prints being made, so grab it while you can!

Saggitarius is finally complete, that leaves only one more of the Dark Horoscopes!

This one took so long because I had to redraw it due to some length issues with the thumb.  The Archer will be available on Etsy soon! Now all that’s left is to finish Scorpio and Dark Horoscopes will be complete! (Or is it???)

I’m super excited to mention that Fire, Water, and Earth are all going to be published in the UNCW Magazine, Atlantis Magazine!

I only just found out yesterday and I’m super excited to recieve a copy! I will find out how and where to get them and let people know! I was so blessed to receive this news late last night!

High Chroma, 2018, Digital and Pencil

This is probably my least favorite of the set, just to start with. The drawing is elongated and I thought that it’d work well with some strong colors to support it. It definitely does, but I tend to veer away from these high saturation colors as a viewer, but it was fun to make. This is a part of the Digital Bodies set I’m showcasing this week, these are semi-experimental drawings I did in 2018 as a warm up for other work, and I wanted to see what kind of reception they got. I’m happy to share more, consistently, if they’re a thing people would like to see. Also if for whatever reason you REALLY like one of these, don’t hesitate to contact me asking for a print, I can make prints of most of the art I’m showcasing right now, I’m just not sure how well these will go with the rest of my shop.
