Visited a friend and their kids were so excited to show me their school sketchbooks... It turned in to an unplanned fun drawing lesson. They picked what to draw! Was trying to show them how to free up a drawing and break the rules a little - as art is one of the few places children get to just do that. Was surprised to find that even in early grades they’re learning about tone and form, times have moved on lol... Art appreciation, #artinquiry, in #Arabic with my (#Egyptian) cousin @ngm07official at @walkerartgallery in #Liverpool. We were visiting @mosalah , the Egyptian King, at my beloved @liverpoolfc . #ynwa 😛... Coincidental #Pyramid 🔼😅 To summarise in translation; Cousin; "This would look better on a smaller scale" (by the way, imo, that's a rare opinion to find with art) Me; "The scale is what makes it a good painting. This is by the late (great) Howard Hodgkin, a British painter known for experimental painting..." Cousin; "I love the textures, and how the colours look next to one another..." Me; "Yeah, the placement of the colours makes them have more or less impact - like the orange and blue, the yellow edge completely changes the picture as we see it" etc. The camera and attention turns to more "representational", "realistic" art... Cousin; "Is this a painting - it's great, looks so real" etc. Me; "The first one, in my experience, is harder to do... This one is all about time, technique, small brushes, weeks and months of painting... the first one is about an idea of expression, it's a feeling... although it isn't my thing either" Both; laugh. Lovely art studio visitors this weekend. My mini #VanGoghChair was perfect for her. 😂☺. Thank you to @mumof2.5 for thinking of my painting as an eid gift for hubby, it's an honour and means a lot that you own it. Especially after the hours of art conversations at the art studio, engaging the children with the paintings and as a new experience for them... loved their interpretations, so clever and imaginative msa. I loved your surprise when seeing the kids so interested and excited by art, encouraging conversations that are rare to find.
