So I‘m making a videogame
My parents recently told me that by this summer I basically need to be making money somehow or else I might get kicked out of the house. Even though my new anxiety medication is actually working pretty well, I feel like my social anxiety is still way too great for me to do well in a "normal" job. I was fired right away from Walmart because I wasn't able to function due to my anxiety.
So anyway, I was talking to some friends on another site (that Pokémon site I have been telling a few people about that I found recently) and we realized that we all have an interest in making videogames, and also we like the same sort of games, so I told them about this idea that I had recently and we were like "let's do this!" so I am actually lead on a really cool project right now!!!
Well things have been progressing rapidly, but it turns out that game making is extremely involved, and none of our artists have prior experience with 3D or have any idea how to animate 3D models. So I guess the point of this post is that I am looking for advice on how to do this, or for anyone with 3D experience and time to spare who might want to join the project.
We have collectively decided not to disclose many details about the game until after the first public pre-release (which absolutely must happen before this summer, and hopefully by mid-spring) so that another company can't take our ideas before we finish, but I should be able to reveal at least the following (sorry it isn't much):
It has a cutesy/moé 3D art style (look here or do a Google Image Search for "Touhou sprites" for an idea of what sort of art style we are considering, but imagine that sort of thing in 3D), and we are shooting for a T ESRB rating, possibly including content from the "alcohol reference", "drug reference", "fantasy violence", "language", "partial nudity", and/or "suggestive themes" categories.
A focus of the game is inclusion, so there will not be racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other sort of bigotry in the game -- I wish this went without saying but sadly most games these days are awful in this regard.
I have been pouring all of my time (have you seen me much on Tumblr lately?) and money (about $500 USD and counting!) into making this work, and since I only have until this summer, this is an all-or-nothing sort of deal for me. I really, really need this to work.
If you think you might want to join, I need to be absolutely clear that you will probably not be making much money from this at all. Only ask to join if you want to have a fun experience and maybe have something cool to put on your résumé. I am nearly broke now and the rest of my money will go into the first year's worth of server hosting (if I can even afford it, I might need a loan!), so I can only pay with a percent of the eventual profits. Furthermore, that percent will need to be small because I have to start paying rent and holy crap that is expensive! The whole reason I started this project was so that I don't have to live on the streets, so paying rent will be my first monetary concern. I hope you understand.
Finally, due to the way our current art process works, you will need to be okay with working with nude models (3D renders, not real people), although the final product will not contain explicit nudity.
Thank you for reading and please keep me in your thoughts ♡ I love each and every one of my followers and I am so sorry that I have not been online much lately. I hope you understand. Take care everybody!!
