For some time now I have been considering not only painting abstractly, but also incorporating recognizable parts into my paintings. Indeed, with my drawings, I myself always find it surprising that I start with a recognizable animal or an object and that from it very unexpected, imaginative forms sprout “of their own accord.
This painting was almost finished, but was still missing something. But what? Suddenly I saw a picture of a sunflower in front of me. That was it!
Sunflowers have wonderful symbolism. The sunflower takes its name from the fact that it always turns its face toward the sun, symbolic of the pursuit of light, optimism and positivity. Sunflowers are therefore a sign of a zest for life.
