Arts Camp Stereotypes By Major
Violin: neurotic, stressed out, angry, and may say things like "But does YOUR ART require you to practice eight hours a day?" with a straight face.
Viola: marginally less aggressive than violinists, but some likelihood they have a chip on their shoulder. Less prone to scary rage meltdown; more Machiavellian.
Cello: Intense gaze, insouciant posture. Pure sex, basically. Camp-wide crush bait.
Bass: Pretty chill for a string instrument. May rock man-bun or undercut and punky shoes. Wanders off into the bushes of musical theory. Behind the relatively laid back exterior, though, lies the sort of unbalanced determination best evoked by a four foot tall elementary schooler hurdling through the trees with an instrument twice her size strapped to her back.
Harp: Mellow, rather reserved. Will fleece you at cards, probably because they spend ninety four percent of symphony practice in the back playing cards. Will insist that they keep their finger nails short and clean for their instruments, not because they're all finger banging in the back room of the auditorium.
Piano: Fully capable of impersonating a functioning member of society. Lovely people, really, until they start fighting over practice slots.
Flute: Just as intense as violin and viola but less voluble. Waifish but driven. Easily forced into retreat by quoting American Pie at them.
Clarinet: look like the mafia with their prim hair and black instrument cases. They'll play a lot of different styles and are less prone to musical purist faction wars than other instruments. May seem normal until you get them talking about reeds.
French Horn: Think they're fancy. Are definitely fancy. A little eccentric.
Tuba: Very eccentric. Quirky. So freakin' weird, but charming with it.
Percussion: What are they doing back their, idk but probably something sketchy.
Trumpet and horns: talk a lot about their spit valves.
Visual arts: Polished and worldly, by arts geek standards. Less overtly competitive than music majors, but twice as cutthroat. Find a gossipy vis artist for best view of drama, it shouldn't be hard.
Theater: Nuts. Form labyrinthine and incestuous sexual networks. Will spend twenty minutes hogging the bathroom and it could be that they're getting their eyeliner just right or it could be that they're writing the entire musical Rent on the wall in Sharpie.
Musical theater: Even more nuts. Definitely keep a couple on hand, you will never get bored. Will totally embarrass you in public but also kick the ass of anyone who makes fun of you about it later.
Creative writing: Casually disregard all regulations pertaining to dress code, schedule, camp boundaries, and will probably get away with it. BS masters. Seem like the quiet type, but will 100% be the ones to sass the head counselor or get the theater kids to put someone's mattress in a tree.
Dance: They have no non-dance friends. They have no life. You will never see them. May as well start colonizing their bunk.
