Aruanie AUs i came up with!
Unfortunately i have been very busy lately and i really dont have much time to draw but i still wanted to get my ideas out there.
They both came from the same general idea and are pretty similar. I like the first one way more but i still wanted the second one out of my head.
Armin the naturalist and Annie the pirate.
Armin was allways fascinated with the ocean, he studied everything there is to know about oceanic life, the only thing he was missing is actual experience. When his professor, Hange offered him to join her on an expedition to document the new species of the galapagos islands and its corall reefs, he jumped to the opportunity without hesiation.
It was gonna be a long and hard journey with traveling on multiple ships. But it was all worth it, everything was planned out, except for pirates. They were attacked and taken as prisoners. Not even for what they have but what the captain might know, The pirate captain is after a massive pile of treasure, no one exactly knows where it is, the directons for it are all criptic, but there are many people who have some information about it.
Suddenly they find themselfs in the middle of a 3 way rivalry between pirates, merchants and royal ships who all want to be the first to find the treasure worth a whole fleet.
Annie is the daughter of the pirate captain, she served him well for long years, but she grew tired of it. She is sick of the endless dark nothingness of the ocean, she is sick of all the constant fighting and greed. For a while she has been conflicted about her life, she doesnt have much options and the crew is still kind of her family, the captain actually is.
While they comb thru the captured ship for anything valuable she finds Armin's notebook. normally she wouldnt care for it, but it was lying on the floor open, and the drawings in it caught her attention.
She took it with her into her cabin. It was full with lively sketches of all the animals of the ocean, what has been a wasteland on the surface here seemed like a colorfull paradise under it, she has been living most of her life on the see but never saw it like this unknown prisoner.
Either she is tasked with gathering information from the prisoners or she finds him on her own. They talk a lot, but Armin either lies or actually overheard something from his captain about the treasure, he measures his words well, he both makes it seem like he knows more than he does and also holds on to some details that they dont need to know just yet. Eventually he convinces her to let him go, wich proves to be a much bigger headache for her later than she ever expected.
But he also finds himself in deeper trouble than he ever imagined, if he wants to survive this all he will have to seem both usefull and neutral for all sides. Lets just hope he can keep track of the diferent lies and truths he keeps spinning for them.
Their paths keep crossing and eventually they have to work together. They find out more and more about each other, and ironically both were unsatisfied with their lifes and viewed the other as the lucky one. Annie never heard anyone speak of the ocean like he did, for him it was full of wonders, things she never even considered. He would love to travel all around the world. While Annie could only imagine what the great land cities must be like that she could only saw while they sailed close to harbors or made a quick stop for resources. Pirates mostly have to rely on small island ports where they dont attract much attention. For her cities seemed so misterious, full with life, and all kinds of people, foods and sights she rarely had the opportunity of enjoying.
They make a promise that if they make it out alive, they both show everything to the other.
For Annie Armin is a breath of fresh air as he might be one of the first person in her life who isnt obsessed with all the fighting and greed that was forced upon her. And Armin was tired of all the academics he was surrounded with who just kept wasting away in studies, for him Annie was the coolest person he ever met.
I am not sure yet about the details of the story, but i think its a pretty good base.
Armin the roman cartographer and annie the scythian warrior.
The more the empire tries to widen its borders the more map makers they need for future campaigns.
Armin was allways fascinated with the mysteries that lay beyond the known world, as a kid he loved to listen to the fantastical stories of merchants that came from beyond the reach of roman roads.
He was both excited and terribly nervous when he got the letter declaring that he will be part of a campaign deep into barbaricum. The new emperor wishes to fix his place in history by going further than anyone before, for that he will need every knowledgable and usefull men in his land and Armin will be one of the many cartographers who will document their journey and make new maps.
They will face many of rome's enemies, mainly the Scythians, deadly steppe nomads who has been a major thorn in the side of the mediterran.
Armin gets swept away in the chaos of a battle and is left behind in the middle of the wildernes where he meets with Annie who is in a similar situation, she declares him her prisoner, figuring he will be usefull for negotiations, or as a slave. But soon it becomes apparent that they are both need to trust the other if they wish to survive.
At first Annie even refuses to talk with him and Armin isnt even sure if they speak the same language. But eventually their converstations grow longer, she knows everything he came here to find out, she is right at home in the seemingly endless and labirynth like wildernes, she knows every hill, mountain and river for hundreds of miles. While she is fascinated with Armin's stories about the wonders of civilisation and of exotic beasts that came from far away lands she never been to.
Idk where the story would go exactly, maybe they work together to minimise the bloodshed. Btw the scythians were super interesting, apparently the women fought the same as men, according to some sources they were the inspiration for amazons, they made cloaks out of human skin etc.
