What a way (a new years aruden fic)
Aru stepped through the threshold of Arielle’s house. The lights were off and music was blaring from the speakers, Aru didn’t really want to be here but her mother had insisted on Aru being a normal teenager for once. The great K.P. Shah had said “Aru you only get to be a teeenager once! Enjoy it for one night, without anything attacking you!” Aru had argued that she was a normal teenager but then vajra had fallen out of her pocket and started coiling around her wrist. So now Aru was here.
it wouldn’t be the worst, at least aiden was here too. Arielle had invited almost everyone that she knew. Her house was HUGE so Aru had no idea where to look for aiden. She wandered aimlessly picking up a frosted sugar cookie as she walked. Shue suddenly spotted a familiar mop of dark hair. She sneaked up quietly behind him as he was engrossed in something on his camera.
“BOO!” Aru shouted from behind him.
Aiden jumped, “Shah!” He exclaimed, a small smile appearing on his usually calm and solemn face, “when did you get here, I didn’t think you were coming.”
“Well, my mom gave me the same speech yours did.” She made a face.
“The one about being a normal teenager?” He sighed and turned to face her fully. “We're both here though… So, what should we do.”
Aru put on a very thoughtful expression and pretended to think for a moment. Then a wicked smile that would’ve made a Disney villain shiver crept on to her lips, “you know wifey… I seem to recall you promising me a dance.”
“Shahhhhhhh! You know I don't dance!” He complained
Aru grinned, “you won't dance with me?” She feigned sorrow, “after I saved your life?”
Aiden gasped, “shah, you did not just play that card!” Hiding shadowfax in a watch he gently took aru’s hand and stared into her eyes, “you are such a troll, shah.”
Aru stuck her tongue out at him, and he shook his head, laughing. “At least I'm not a snob!” She grinned and started jumping around.
Aru shah was a woman of many talents… dancing was not among them and Aiden grinned as he watched her try and fail at dancing. Her hair fell out of her loose braid and suddenly aiden tugged on her wrist.
She stopped dancing and followed him as he led her down a hallway and then up a few staircases, finally he slid open a glass door.
Aru stepped onto a gorgeous balcony, it overlooked the reddi’s perfect lawn and she looked at aiden, “whoa!”
Aiden nodded “the view is great right? Arielle kept inviting me over when I first started so I did, just once, to be nice. I remember this balcony though.” He smiled, “she stopped when i started hanging out with you.”
Aru laughed, “you still didn’t dance with me yet, aiden.” She threw a leaf at him as his eyebrows raised with the use of his real name, “stop avoiding it!”
“Okay, shah. I give up. I will dance with you, do you even know how?”
Aru’s cheeks flushed, “well… not exactly” she mumbled.
Aiden turned to her and held out his hands, Aru put hers in his, they fit perfectly. He positioned her hand on his shoulder and held the other. Putting a hand on her waist he whispered, “now just step with me.” Aru nodded and tried to follow his movements but she kept tripping and stepping on his toes. “Ok shah, should we try with some music?”
Aru nodded and grabbed his phone which was already at Spotify, typing in the song she wanted she tapped on it and set it down. The time in the order read 11:44.
“Tale as old as time…” started playing from the phone and aiden looked at her pointedly.
“that is cultured music right there.” She grinned
“I should have known.” He said.
He and Aru fell back into the stance they had been at. This time Aru didn’t step on Aiden’s toes. The pair kept dancing as the song looped over and over. Aru evil cackled and aiden sighed going to hs phone to pause the music when he saw the time, 11:59. He checked his watch, 15 seconds till midnight. Aru walked over an he gazed into her eyes… NOW!
aru’s eyes widened, realizing, “9” she replied
the pair counted in unison, “5… 4… 3…2…”
the 1 was cut off by Aru leaning in. Her lips on his, he closed his eyes and buried his fingers in her hair. A few moments later they both slowly pulled away.
“Happy new year, Aru. Here’s to many more.” He said softly,
“Happy new year, aiden.” She pulled something out from behind her, his phone! She started playing the ‘friends’ theme song and ran away from his attempts to get his phone back.
Aiden wasn’t really trying, this was how Aru was and he loved her for it. Still, what a way to start the year, kisses and theme songs.
