i need to ask, since i’m new to the fandom... what is the general consensus on shipping? like what is and isn’t okay. i’m asking you because you’re one of the good fans and not one of those “no jams” armys. personally i’m really uncomfortable with rpf and shipping real people, like i like the relationships between the members but when people make declarative statements about their sexualities and intentions it makes me uncomfortable, (1/2)
(2/2) because i don’t feel like its my place to talk about their personal life. its different when it’s a fictional character. i feel like the fandom treats the boys as if they’re fictional characters sometimes
to be blunt, actually shipping real ppl isn’t.. okay. because like you said it’s very insensitive to treat real ppl like fictional characters. + shipping often leads to fetishization and delusional fans who can’t tell the difference between fiction and reality. it also hurts the idols because some of these fans will (for example:) get mad if the idol interacts with someone that isn’t the person they ship him/her with. so yeah… there are lots of problems with shipping real ppl.
that being said.. because shipping isn’t going to go away…. i think the ~golden rule~ of shipping should be that a) it should be kept strictly inside the fandom, b) it shouldn’t be taken seriously and c) it shouldn’t hurt anyone
