hey you are so right about jay ferin speak up!! love how you put it that she's smart and decisive but not calculating, and she probably has a really weird relationship with being decisive and making decisions and being in a leadership role because like, that's what she was kind of raised to do? to take on a leadership role in the navy and make the tough calls and be prepared to accept the consequences and it's gotten her this far hasn't it? but i'm sure she's also terrified that one day she'll make the wrong call and it'll seriously hurt people in a way she can't come back from and she keeps pushing towards becoming more powerful and moving forward but is terrified of that power because even if she knows herself and what she wants, she doesn't completely trust herself. i mean, she is a ferin after all

YAYY I’m glad you like my thoughts!! I think it’s so interesting that you pointed that out, because she IS good in leadership roles! Throughout a lot of the campaign, when the consequences for things aren’t as god awful, her decisiveness is so helpful. I think that’s why she’s often labeled as the capable one.

I think the thing to me about Jay is that she Knows What She Wants. She almost always knows what she wants and she almost always acts on that. While I think outwardly Chip acts more characteristically ‘selfish’ and Gillion ‘driven’, I think those are traits that actually are stronger in Jay (selfish in a broader sense of the word for her). Chip and Gill are pretty uncertain people at their core for most of the campaign, though I think post black sea Chip is a little different. This way of functioning for Jay I think is also part of why she gets called the capable one, or the one with the brain cell, because it tends to keeps her more on track than the other two. If she really wants something in a situation, she’ll focus on getting it. She’s just as silly as her co-captains, she just stays focused on what she wants and sometimes that want is the reasonable outcome to a situation (sometimes its not though, and those are my favorite times). Because Chip and Gill are more uncertain people, I think they’re more easily distracted from what they’re trying to achieve. Does this make sense? I’m a little brain fogged

I have a lot more I want to say but I’m not finding the right words so I might come back to this later. I want to talk about her self worth in recent episodes, about how she’s sometimes treated in fandom AND in universe like she can do no wrong but really she’s a very messy person, and I want to give some examples of both big and small choices and scenes that reflect what I’ve been talking about. So I’ve spent all night thinking about the Will of Lord Penwood… and how it might Araminta might be hiding something much bigger… (a moot on X mentioned it yesterday…)

Especially considering how she’s dragged Sophie’s Name in London somehow…

And I know this is a huge stretch but…

What if Lord Penwood had actually married Sophie’s mother in secret… but it was a Proxy marriage to try and hide it from his father.

Sophie’s mother went first but unbeknownst to her… he’s gone through with his part but she’s sent away before Richard had a chance to tell her… and she’s not had a chance to tell him she’s pregnant…

So Sophie’s actually LEGAL and the rightful owner of everything to do with Penwood and her first son gets the title (but like the Featherington one… and could be where Portia got the idea maybe?). And Araminta hides it all from Sophie and of course, stole her dowry…

It would be a fucking huge bombshell and it would possibly help to restoring Sophie’s status so that she could marry Benedict easily…

Like imagine the DRAMA of Posy barging into the Jail saying it was her that stole the clips… and then BAM… You’re legitimate and he’s left everything to you…

I may have to write this… maybe… if enough people wanna see it…
