The season 1 finale of “Cruel Summer” was great!!! :D Awesome they answered pretty much all of the mysteries. I’m going to put the rest behind a cut since it’s major spoilers but did see the writers are still being coy about what season 2 will be about and if they’ll keep the same characters or become an anthology with new cast/characters next year. I’m hoping for the former and after the finale have a few ideas of what season 2 could be with this same group of characters that are also behind the cut for spoilers.
I had a feeling Mallory was somehow involved and we saw that she was the one Kate saw looking at her through the window Christmas of 93 and Kate thought it was Jeanette. I really liked how this was revealed and Jeanette also helping Kate remember what Annabelle was, which was a gun. Didn’t expect that Kate actually killed Martin, that it was the gunshot heard in the pilot episode, the girls working together and Kate revealing the truth to the media/court, and that Kate forgave Mallory. Also nice to see Jamie apologize to Ben and the 3 main couples either got back together or formed with Jeanette reuniting with Jamie like I expected, Vince and Ben seeming to be on their way back together, and the surprise of Kate and Mallory kissing.
But then the big twist that Jeanette actually did hear Kate in the basement as she went back to the house in 94!!! :o We saw that Jeanette wanted to be popular, get the guy, and now in 95 she has this worldwide fame as most see her as a victim now and she got Jamie back and she’ll do anything to keep it that way.
So this leads me to wonder what season 2 will be about. Like I said above I hope it’s not an anthology as I feel we could see more with these characters as they become 20 somethings in the late 90s. Jeanette still has this secret and would be interesting if she can keep it throughout her life and if she and Jamie start their own family. What Kate’s life is like an adult and coming out with Mallory, same with Vince and Ben. Then Derek wasn’t in the finale too, likely due to Barrett filming again for “Cobra Kai”, and we never saw what happened next for him and Ashley after this or Kate finding out Ashley was the one she’s chatting with online. Also there likely would be a new mystery we could see tied to some of the supporting characters. And we don’t know what happened between Cindy and Joy when they were in high school which could be flashbacks too for another timeline set in the 60s. There are a lot of options and the music just got better in the late 90s, especially 1997. LOL Either way I loved this show and excited for season 2 next year!!! :D
