al-Ḏahabī may Allah have mercy on him said:
قال الذهبي رحمه الله تعالى:
It is authentically reported from al-Dāraquṭnī that he said:
"وصح عن الدارقطني أنه قال:
“Nothing is more detestable to me than ʿilm al-kalām (ie: the science of theological rhetoric).”
I (ie: al-Ḏahabī) say: A man should never engage in ʿilm al-kalām or al-jadal; rather, he should be Salafī (ie: adhere to the way of the Pious Predecessors).

Ahlul-Kalām (and the Ash'aris) are Ahlul-Bid'ah; and a response to the innovator who uses philosophy and argumentation to establish his religion.
Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Al-Qayyim were not the first to say that Ahlul-Kalām (and the Ash'aris) are Ahlul-Bid'ah. And a response to the innovator who uses philosophy and argumentation to establish his religion.
Those who claim that Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and his student Al-Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah’s mercy be upon them both) were the first to apply the label of Ahlul-Bid’ah upon the Ash’aris are either deceived, ignorant or misguided. These great scholars did not speak except that which the Salaf had already affirmed. Furthermore, the early scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah warned against…
And whoever has even a slight understanding knows that there is nothing in al-nuṣūṣ (ie: the texts) more explicit or clearer in meaning than the content of these nuṣūṣ (about Allah being above the creation).
So if they are mutashābih (ie: unclear verses), then the entire Sharīʿah is mutashābih,
and there is nothing in it that is muḥkam (ie: definitively clear).

Asharis Lavellan is the twin sister to Inquisitor Liavera Lavellan. Though Lia's a mage, Ash doesn't have any magic herself. (Though I keep being tempted by the idea that she's a little sensitive to magic somehow. Similar to how Lucanis says blood magic "makes his eyeballs itch" or something like that. No spells, just vibes.)
Due to the decimation of Clan Lavellan when she was younger, she wanted to do everything that she could to help her clan recover. She learned whatever she could and became a sort of jack-of-all-trades, pitching in wherever her skills are needed. She can repair & make clothes and work leather, repair the aravels, cook meals, and even helped with making tools & weapons.
Her main skill, though, was hunting. She learned from her father before he passed, and once she was old enough to go out on her own, her skills only got sharper. Ash loved getting the chance to go on longer hunts on her own. There was something almost peaceful about being so still in nature, her mind focused on the hunt and clear of anything else. Her vallaslin -- Andruil's -- reflects her identity as a hunter, both for her clan and, later, the Inquisition.
Ash loves her sister dearly and would do just about anything for her, even if she doesn't always agree with Lia's methods, or worries about the trouble she tends to get herself into. She always complains about how she's the one who has to come in to clean up Lia's messes -- even if she's often the one volunteering herself for the job most of the time.
When Lia gets mixed up with the Inquisition at Haven, Ash mostly tries to stick to her side as they navigate the strange and dangerous situation they've found themselves in. Once it was clear her sister was mostly safe from the Chantry folks killing her over the Divine's death, she slowly starts to work as a spy of sorts for them, putting her hunting skills to good use.
Later, after the Winter Palace, Lia has her working closely with Briala, alongside some other Inquisition diplomats. Ash is unsure about this position at first -- she does not see her working well among Orlesian nobles -- but Lia has faith in her abilities, and thinks it sends a very clear message to have the Inquisitor's sister working so closely with the Marquise. Lest anyone get ideas about who's really in power.
Despite her uncertainty at first, Ash manages to do well in her new role. After the Inquisition is disbanded in Trespasser, she stays in Orlais and continues working alongside Briala, to continue the work her sister started.
(And as for the rumors of something going on between her and the Marquise, well... :3c I shan't say.)
When things are a little too slow and she needs to keep her hands busy, Ash is often found whittling. Her favorite things to make are animals, and often practices carving the local fauna of wherever the Inquisition has her traveling to. And if you goad her enough, she might show off a few tricks with her bow.
...and that's all i can think of off the top of my head. any questions?
