ooo for the ask game: 7 + Varian, Lance, Yong
Oh this one is lovely!
Go to a wedding with:
Lance. My guy and I are drinking champagne and hitting on bridesmaids. Way too many cocktail weenies. And you cannot tell me my mans doesn't look damn good in a tux.
Go to a party with:
Yong. Kid MAKES FIREWORKS. This would be an incredible party. Not one we were invited to, mind you. We are crashing one.
Go to a museum with:
Varian. Nerd boy knows a great many things. Not only do I think the less social interaction will help this anxiety ridden boy, but imagine how much you could learn with him there! (Also theft not likely but not totally off the table, either. It's a surprise.)
i can't choose which wip is the one i want to hear about most, so choose the top 3 you wanna talk about most <3
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH so hard to choose I don't know how to shut up (putting my DW blog here for reasons @clockwork-cat-in-the-tardis)
Falling Lessons
The companion to Flying Lessons! Where Flying Lessons is start of the noun polycule from River's perspective in All Your Life and Mine, Falling Lessons is the start of the noun polycule from Rose and the Doctor's perspectives.
The host ushered them into a waiting room as their table was prepared.
“This might be the first time in a century he’s turned up early to something,” Rose said with a grin.
“If my memories are anything to go off of, it just might be the last time he’s early,” River replied and Rose giggled.
“Oi, are you two always going to gang up on me?” The Doctor argued, taking his eyes off the spot where the restaurant’s name was written on the wall for the first time since they were seated.
“Probably, yeah,” Rose said with a grin.
“Except for the bowtie, I can never seem to convince her to have any taste.”
“Maybe you’re the one without any taste if you’re the only one here that doesn’t like the bowtie,” the Doctor countered, his eyes drifting back to the writing on the wall.
Light/I'll Keep You Safe
Twelve/Rose kidfic! The folder this is in (Atlas of the Multiverse) is fics inspired by songs off of the albums Atlas: I and Atlas: II by Sleeping at Last. This one will claim its title from either Light or I'll Keep You Safe (shocking I know). At its core it's me crying over Twelve translating babies crying and me going "is NO ONE gonna touch on that ever again????" over the Tenza from the Eleven ep Night Terrors. It, uh, doesn't start happy.
By the time the TARDIS had landed on this asteroid colony, the damage had already been done. The bioweapon, left over from the war that had wiped the asteroid clean the first time nearly a century ago, had been released into the atmosphere before the TARDIS had received the distress signal, perhaps even before it had been sent. By the time they had found their way to the scientist who had raised the concern about the leakage - by the time they had met the woman who would point them in the direction of the scientist - by the time they had taken a step out of their space-time machine, all human life on this chunk of rock was as good as dead.
It was not a fixed point, not something they couldn’t change for fear of tearing a hole in the universe. It was not an important piece of history that, while technically malleable, the Doctor knew too well to risk changing. It was not something that was inevitable in the grand scheme of things. It was merely poor timing - on the part of the pilot, on the part of the ship, on the part of the scientist, on the part of the alarm system that had been programmed to be a bit too lenient - and that just made it so much worse.
Like a Lost Ghost
Did someone say thirteenrose chameleon arch AU? I think I heard thirteenrose chameleon arch AU. Did I hear thirteenrose roller derby chameleon circuit AU? Even better.
I think I'm in love," Jane said as she walked through the door, her duffle bag of gear swung over her shoulder.
"Roller derby as fun as you expected then, Jane?" Yaz asked.
"Oh, derby was good too," Jane said, and Yaz shot a glance at the others.
"It's a bit quick to say you're in love with one of your teammates, isn't it?" Ryan asked.
"Oh, but you had no problem when you thought I was saying I was in love with roller derby after just tryouts and one practice? Besides I've already fallen for her," she said with a dopey grin and gestured to a large red spot on her thigh that Yaz knew would inevitably be a nasty bruise by morning.
ok all of your wips absolutely Intrigue me, but i'm literally dying to know what "hunchback 2 rewrite dumbest version" is
Oh my god Im so glad you asked because I literally spend entire days wishing people would talk to me about this SO
Basically, my favorite movie of all time is Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. 10/10 I adore it. But like...the sequel was obviously uh, Not Great. Probably one of the most hated Disney direct to vhs sequels out there. However imo the film like, does have some redeeming qualities? I really like Madellaine and Zephyr and there are some character moments that are good. And for the longest time, I would joke about how they deserved a better movie and how I could totally write a version of the movie that doesn’t suck...
You can see where this is going. One day I just decided to do it and I’m roughly 17k words in, have the entire plot outlined, have spent like...way too much time researching 1500′s France, and have rewatched the sequel and examined it in a level that probably isn’t healthy.
So yeah, it’s essentially my passion project. I actually do basically have the first chapter finished I just know if I post it before it’s done I’m gonna lose motivation, plus I’m kinda treating this as a way to teach myself how to write novels(since this thing is gonna be LONG) and want to actually finish it properly before I share it, so I can fix things without having cemented anything in place by posting it early.
It’s also titled “dumbest version” because I heard some writers say titling your rough draft that will help you take it less seriously so you can actually finish it, and also it’s all in comic sans for the same reason. But I’m also actually really proud of it so far and I do hope when it’s done people actually want to read it. Imo it’s some of the best stuff I’ve ever written and it’s nice to put a lot of work into something I really care about.
Also, I’m glad you find my weird wip titles interesting and thank you for asking about this one :D
1, 5 and 24 for the ask game MWAH <3
1. What’s your favorite character(s) to write for?
Some of you might think that my hyperfixation is Doctor Who. You would be wrong. It is Rose Tyler. I am only half joking. River's fun too but I'm so much newer to writing her that I spend twice as long agonizing over whether or not I've got her voice right.
Of my OCS it's definitely Minnie and Tess because they literally more or less came from "what if I had less existential dread?" and "what if I had MORE existential dread?" so they play off of each other in very interesting ways.
5. Do you listen to music when writing?
Yes!!! Silence breaks my focus, so I listen to instrumental music, when writing Doctor Who fics it tends to be one song from the soundtrack looped for however long I'm writing
24. Do you prefer AUs with the characters, or sticking to the original universe?
Do you remember back in the day like 8 years ago when someone proposed the term universe alternate? Yeah, that's my jam. For the most part I like to keep characters in the same universe but messing around with story lines a bunch. As opposed to missing scenes or full on AUs. (For the most part most of the things on my to write list that I have mentally labeled in AU fall under this category, but they do more or less take place in the Whoniverse)
i can't believe we started out as coworkers at the elevenrose factory and now we're CEO's of the riverrose empire
Behold, the glory of our vast empire! *gestures at 23 fics on Ao3 (only 17 of which are completed, at least 4 of those being pwp oneshots) and like 6 brainstorming threads in the discord server, and a grand total of 5 people I can confidently say are interested in the ship*
The Eleven/Rose -> Eleven/River/Rose -> River/Rose pipeline is REAL and we need to work hard to drag more people down it because I want to see that ship tag hit triple digits before I graduate undergrad.
8, 14, and 23 for the writer ask game <3
hello ash, thank you for the ask! 💞
8) favorite genre to write
oooh since i exclusively write DW fic at the moment, i guess it all falls under sci-fi? definitely enjoying playing with the semi-structured-but-mostly-flexible universe. in subcategories/tropes of that, reunions and fix-its are addicting as all heck to me
14) do you make playlists for your current wips?
no, but i have started doing semi-songfics that are about songs in my generic timepetals playlist, and i swear eventually i'll do the Spotify Top 100 thingies that i've been letting rot in my ask box 😅
23) any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?
i don't think so, though i'm unclear on what's being asked? i've had incredibly encouraging school teachers that helped me build confidence in having my own writing "voice," though i'm pretty sure they were talking about using said voice for English essays when i was a teen and not a million Doctor Who fics during my adulthood, but you know. details.
🌝🖊 for the ask game! <3
🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?
For TTS, anyone from the Brotherhood! I'd love to write Adira especially, but the Brotherhood can be a bit intense. I tend to do more witty humor with dark undertones. Writing a serious character is daunting for me.
(I do have some scenes in mind with her and our favorite alchemy boy for my Epithet Erased AU)
🖊 Post a snippet from a current WIP.
I have a soon to be finished TTS WIP, but I don't want to give it away...
So have something from our D&D game I'm writing out instead:
The sound shakes Cainan out of his stunned stupor, staring down the muzzle inches from his face. An all too familiar, large brown bear.
Cainan tries to dash around the bear and it lashes out with one of its massive paws. When the claws bash into the back of Cainan’s head, he hears a splitting crack before tumbling forward. The floating disk, which had been pulled along behind him, drops to the ground, the box making a heavy clang as it falls on top of it. His vision blacks before he hits the dirt. The light on his staff, now laying in the grass beside him, begins to flicker and dim.
"Dammit, kid."
