To add to the bathroom debate, urinals are installed into men's bathrooms and are generally unnecessary because a man with a penis can pee in a stall, but they are added for a man's convenience if that's not cis male privilege I don't know what is. Urinals are more expensive than tampons.

refer me to a previous ask if you already answered >.< im new to your blog and got hooked reading your voyager recaps. Been so long since I watched! Anyway what didn't you like about Neelix/Kes? Its been too long since I watched to remember if it was bad or not.
Hi! Great question. I’m going to preface with saying these are my opinions based on my perceptions and preferences. I ship all sorts of relationships that could be classified as questionable or worse and I don’t judge anyone who reads it differently or simply finds Neelix/Kes sweet and innocuous.
I’ll start with mechanics. One problem is that the relationship is established before we meet them so we are asked to be invested in it without any exploration of why we’d want to be. Another is that Kes is introduced as an abused girl and Neelix as manipulative and overprotective (markers of an abuser). These first impressions are shallow and misleading but while Kes gains agency pretty quickly, Neelix is slow to grow out of his paternalism. Finally, it’s unclear exactly how old Neelix is supposed to be but he’s an adult and Kes is presented as the equivalent of a teen. There are fine reasons this shouldn’t matter – they are alien and shouldn’t be judged by human standards, emotionally Kes acts older and Neelix much younger – but it doesn’t help that there’s also a nearly 20 year age gap between the actors.
In context, Kes was a curious child who dreamed of the forbidden world above and Neelix is the first non-hostile surface dweller she meets so she falls in love with him. That might be romantic and Shakespearean (The Tempest) but it’s super flimsy to build a lasting relationship on especially after she meets an entire starship of explorers. Lack of options is a weak foundation. And thing is, Neelix realizes it and his response is terrible. He tries to limit her ability to build relationships with others, tells her to be wary of all other men, accuses her of being too trusting, too friendly, too open, too curious, and too innocent to take care of herself. He treats her like a child and he says it is all for her protection. His jealousy issues may make him interesting but at the expense of the relationship. I can’t root for something so unbalanced.
And Neelix exhibits the same lack of respect for boundaries in his other interactions, particularly with Tuvok. Janeway seems to find it cute when Neelix barges into her spaces to demand this or that but Tuvok explicitly tells Neelix to respect his culture/choices and Neelix consistently ignores him. I think the audience is meant to find that cute, too, but I do not. The result is I do not like Neelix and since I really love Kes, I want something better for her.
5 things you'd change about farscape?
Less of Aeryn and John’s relationship - like... we get it. they are kinda the romantic backbone of the show but??? WE GET IT. THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH. WE KNOW. we know. (we know) - they can still be portrayed as being in love but their relationship really did steal the spotlight from the dynamics of other characters and just... ugh.
Jothee should’ve been brought on as an Alexander Rozhenko type - no weird shit with Chiana. There should’ve been some mutual parenting for him by everyone onboard Moya, including Moya herself, and he could’ve brought some sort of specialty to the crew like another piece of Luxan weaponry? Jothee would’ve been a great permanent addition to the crew, and his presence would’ve driven home the theme of family.
I would’ve loved to see everyone’s homeworld at least once. There was a sense of no one belonging at home, and seeing everyone’s incongruity with their own species would be intensified - especially on the Nebari homeworld the most I believe. Farscape never did the best job tightening up worldbuilding throughout the galaxy, and I would like to see more of that.
More Scarrans!!! Scarran society is really interesting with the 3 phenotypes working into their caste system, and it would’ve been interesting to have a Scarran in Moya’s crew. Not a hybrid like Scorpius - but a literal Scarran, as a foil to Aeryn. Someone who did their best to serve their cause and was caught in the wrong place at the right time just like her. I just wish they were explored more as a species and as villains (like all the nasties i love) so there’s that. The Peacekeepers were explored reasonably sufficiently as a society so i feel like the Scarrans should’ve been given the same chance.
Explicitly queer Scorpius and Braca - and other characters - okay like the actors described that one lick scene as intimate/romantic but that doesn’t necessarily make it canon and also Chiana had multiple attractions to women/nb characters and just... Farscape is a show that is so ripe for queer inclusion and yet??? (see #1 tbh)

Raxil should’ve been given a periodic recurring fuckerupper role akin to a fusion of Quark and Q - she’s such an iconic character and i love her so much
Jool and Sikozu should’ve been given their own ship and become pirates or bounty hunters or some shit. yeah.
