I used to be engaged once upon a time and while it felt like my life was completely shattered when the engagement was called off, I am grateful that I was released from the shackles that I didn't know existed.
I am so happy I get to be myself without feeling as if I am being a burden to those around me. I am so happy that I get to be as loud and as proud of being queer and being Asian. Something that I was told to hide because bringing up race and queerness is so annoying and I shouldn't be proud of that as it's cringe. I love life more and more each day I wake up and I never want to be held down again. And most of all, I truly love myself and I didn't know that I could ever feel that way again.
Sometimes we settle down and think this is the best we could do and have. But it's not too late to start and live the life you've always wanted.
Apologies, I was watching I Saw the TV Glow with M last night and it took me back to the moments where I hid myself to fit into society more and stayed in a relationship where the person didn't like me for me but rather they wanted me to be a person they could mould that was palatable for them. But now I love myself and met M who is also very fucking proud of being queer and trans in this world. We told each other that we are paying our respects to our queer elders who died for us by being proud of who we are and no one is going to take that away. I think that movie is a must watch especially for those who are afraid of coming out or fear that they can't.
