What does it mean when a Planet "rules" a sign? That if you have y planet that rules x sign you won the lottery? I'm confused

Hello sweetie 🥹🖤 and firstly, no question is stupid at all when you’re learning astrology 🌙.

A lot of astrology concepts sound confusing at first because people often explain them in a very technical or overcomplicated way.

When astrologers say a planet "rules" a sign, they basically mean that the planet is naturally associated with the energy of that sign.

For example:

Mars rules Aries (Mars = war and action)

Venus rules Taurus and Libra (Venus = beauty and comfort)

Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo (Mercury = reasoning, thoughts, your mind, like in the Greek mythology)

Moon rules Cancer

Saturn rules Capricorn etc ✨

So if someone says:

“your 10th house is ruled by Venus”

They usually mean that the sign on the cusp of your 10th house is Taurus or Libra, because Venus rules those signs.

Then astrologers look at:

where Venus is,

what house it’s in,

the aspects it makes,

and how strong/challenging the planet is in the chart.

That’s how they interpret the area of life connected to that house 🌙

It doesn’t automatically mean:

"You’ll become rich." or "You’ll win the lottery."

Astrology is much more symbolic and psychological than that. A ruling planet basically acts like the "manager" of that area of the chart, so its condition affects how that area tends to function in someone’s life 🖤
