(Part 3) In her shoes I'd probably not even consider alliance with ppl who: 1) burned down grounder village with flares. 2) tortured lincoln. 3) burned 300 warriors 4) massacred 18 villagers. 5) killed 299 ppl from peace army + grounder messengers and elevator guards. 6) planned to kill more for that farming land. Tbh after s3 I can't even stand looking at skaikru anymore, so I dropped the series. The narrative of colonisers getting away with murders of natives just doesn't sit well with me.
Yes, right! First things first: I never said that the alliance was a good idea. I said that they made that alliance and that Lexa’s decision to break it was shit. Maybe she should have decided against that pact when if was first suggested but it is unfair to leave the 100 (of 44, if you wish) to die after she and her people had profited from the alliance. She would not have her people back without the alliance. The alliance made it frist possible that Lexa’s army was a threat for Mount Weather. Without Clarke, Raven and Bellamy as well as Jasper, Monty and Maya (not to mention all the other Skaikru and members of the 100 who helped), the Grounders would not have been more than an army in front of an impregnable mountain and in that case Cage would obviously not have offered Lexa that deal. You get me, right? Lexa made that alliance, profited from it and then refused to fulfill her part of the agreement.
Secondly: 1. They explained to Anya what the flares were for and that it was an accident. How were they supposed to know there was a village? They practically knew nothing about the Grounders. 2. They tortured Lincoln because they needed him to save Finn. Moreover, Lincoln forgave them and therefore it is none of Lexa’s business anymore. 3. This was a war that the 100 did not begin. Lexa/Anya sent soldiers to kill them. Were they not supposed to defend themselves? Furthermore, the 100 even tried to prevent it when destroying the bridge instead of attacking the Grounders directly. Burning the warriors was their last chance to survive. You need to differ between that time when they were enemies and fought wars against each other and the time when they were allies and were supposed to fight side by side. 4. Finn was punished and the other Skaikru had nothing to do with that. Everything else is S3, way after Lexa’s betrayal. 5. They killed whom they had to kill to survive. 6. This was not even relevant at that point? That is a S3 thing while Lexa’s betrayal happed in S2.
Your last simile is a not well chosen, tbh. The 100 are not colonizers in that way. They did not come to conquer but to live. They did not fight the natives but defended themselves when they were attacked. They did not take any land from the natives apart form that small part where the dropship (and later the Ark) landed. They lived there “in peace” not trying to cause any harm when they were attacked by Grounders and had to fight them so they could survive. Clarke even tried to make peace with Anya. What Pike does in S3 is a completely different story. This is terrible and I would never try to justify that. But this had not yet happened when Lexa betrayed Skaikru so it is completely irrelevant.
However, thank you for the asks and please do not take my answers as offense. I tried to explain why my opinion differs from yours and I’m not saying that you are completely wrong. I’m just pointing out that I do not necessarily agree with everything you said.
