Aska Yang ( 楊宗緯) Concert Review

On November 18th, 2017 there was a concert at Pasadena Civic Center. The singer’s name is Aska Yang ( 楊宗緯). Aska is a Chinese Mandopop singer famous in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Aska has a unique and amazing voice that only he can perform. His voice is pure and at times can be raspy which is pleasant to hear. I really liked the location of the concert because Pasadena is known to have a lot of Chinese speakers just like me so I felt at home. The venue was nice as well. The room was big and grand, and the speakers had a powerful bass. Personally, I do not like opening performances because I would much rather hear the artist I came for from the start. The opening performer is an average singer, and made me ready for Aska to come out. I have been following Aska’s work for a couple years now because of his lyrics in many of his songs that have a deep meaning. When the time finally came, Aska’s first song was one of his new songs that I loved. His voice was better than the studio recording. Immediately, I was blown away and had the chills because of that strong opening. Since it was Aska’s first time performing in the United States, he was a bit nervous which I could tell because he did not really go all out until later in the concert. I enjoyed every minute of the concert even on the songs that I was not familiar with. He even sang some English songs which were not bad since English is not his strong language. I believe that it was worth to drive to Pasadena late night to listen to this singer. I highly encourage anyone who is open to listen to Asian music to listen to Aska. His music is open to children, adults, and elders. With his singing style and lyrics it is suitable for all ages to enjoy!
