(I probably shouldn't post this...)
(Because the blogs involved don't even know this one exists, and probably won't really care about my opinion on things. But I'm going to say it anyway because I have a verbose streak when I'm upset about things happening to people and places I actually like.
Becca, you are incredible. And I'm not even talking about your art or your blog - which are also incredible - butyou. Every time I see you upset on your blog, it's because of what's happening withsomeone else. You have to try hard to find that kind of attitude anywhere on the internet, and everyone who follows you loves you to pieces for that. Unfortunately, that means that some of the more jerkish internet denizens will single you out for highly emotional pranks and jokes. That troll last night was an especially harsh one, and you have no idea how sorry and upset I am that someone like you was put through that purely for the entertainment of, for lack of better phrasing, a freaking asshole.
But you also have a lot of friends - a lot of people just here on Tumblr who like you and talk to you a lot. When you're in a situation like that one, just look to them for advice on how to handle those kinds of situations. The best possible thing an empathetic, friendly, good-hearted person like you can have on the internet is a skeptical friend or two to help stop moments like that from happening to you.
As for your worry about the 'NSFW' picture... Don't be worried. There was nothing graphic about it. It was suggestive yes, but not graphic in any way, shape or form! I know how much it must have taken for you to post something like that, regardless - I've had a similar experience with something I drew back before my shaking hands finally made me put down the pencil. And I'm going to tell you what I learned from my similar situation.
Don't be any less proud of good art because of the content. That was a verywell-drawn picture. I only wishI could produce something as good! There's absolutely no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed because of the content. No one has any right to tell you what you should or shouldn't be drawing unless they're paying you to do it for them. Otherwise, if someone is telling you 'You shouldn't do that' or 'I don't like you doing this' or 'QUIT DRAWING THAT,' and you're drawing what you want to be drawing, I want you to very calmly tell them, "If you want to control what I choose to draw, then you can commission me. If not, then I draw what I want when I want."
You haveevery rightto be just asproudof all the effort and work you put into that picture as you doevery other picture you draw. And the same goes for anyone else who draws NSFW art (Demise, I'm looking at you.) If the art is good,be proud of it. And the artis good. Both of you. Do you have anycluehow many of us look at the work you two draw anddaydream about being able to draw well enough to match it? SFW, NSFW,we don't care. We like it because it'sgood.
And nobodysaid they didn't like your picture! It really surprised quite a few of us - aside from the BLOOD! moments she has, she always seemed very innocent, and that picture, after I got through staring, made me laugh so loudly I woke my nephews up!
So please, Becca, feel better? I know we haven't talked but I spend a lot of time watching my dash and you spend a lot of time on it - So I still feel like one of my friends had a hard night and I don't like it a bit. And Demise, you too. I saw you were starting to crack a little with all the NSFW-hate flowing around last night, and I felt bad for you too.
As for the NSFW-haters, that's your prerogative, just like it's the NSFW-lovers' prerogative to like it. And some of you had valid concerns. But those valid concerns quickly devolved into bashing it because it's 'gross' or 'nasty' or 'sick'. And that's fine, that's your opinion. You're entitled to it. Just please try to remember that the rest of us are entitled to our opinions too, even if ours is opposite yours. And all you're doing when you bash it and claim that it 'takes the fandom/community in a bad direction' or 'Shouldn't be allowed because it's sick', is make the artists feel bad, or guilty, or insecure. Please think of that the next time you decide to 'speak out' against it in such a way: There are likeable, friendly people behind those pictures a lot of the time, andyou are hurting them.
The comments about how NSFW can get people in trouble and posters should be more careful with it were very valid arguments. Please keep in mind not everyone has Tumblr Savior. All it takes is a second to click a Read More break and add a NSFW tag, and a lot of drama vanishes with that one click. Viewers, most blogs that post NSFW are very up front about it. Consider that before you click follow. Also, there is a Tumblr addon called 'Tumblr Savior' that allows you to 'blacklist' certain tags - like NSFW - so that you can still follow a blog, but not have to see their NSFW content when they post it.
They became invalid arguments when 'Hide it like you should be ashamed of it, not because it can get people in trouble' became the main drive of the argument.
And Becca, none of this applies to your picture. There was nothing graphic about it: For all we know Servine was eating a really stretchy caramel or something. They make those salty now. :P
But, I just hope at least Demise and Becca notice this. It's obviously far too long to get into their ask boxes andI just want them to feel better.
And Shi, try not to think too hard, you're awesome and the picture was cute as Hell, NSFW or not!)
