I am by no means an expert on anything, but I think it might help to try and unlearn the idea of 'winning' an argument for any reason online. I read somewhere (Don't remember source sorry) That people who spend a lot of time on the internet, either in gaming or just blogs/forums can develop an extremely toxic competetive mindset. Kinda like in sport, but, just with arguments, popurlarity and debates. So it becomes less about beliving you are right, but getting the other to admit they are wrong?
I’m not really sure what I’m expecting when I get in to these arguments, I certainly don’t expect the other person to stop being a dick, and I generally doubt they’re going to change their opinions
I think some of my mindsets are that I have to defend myself because I feel like I’m being attacked, it’s part of my PTSD, there were a lot of times in my childhood where I was cornered by people putting words in my mouth and bullying me and trying to get a rise out of me and I just feel so helpless. It’s like I’m just crying out for people to notice I’m under distress and I want people to back me up so I don’t feel like I did something wrong. I don’t care if the person I’m arguing with agrees with me, I care if the majority of people agree with me.
