Durgetash? 🤔
Oh man. Durgetash. Fucking Durgetash.
Objectively, this is a fine ship. I have read Durgetash fics I've enjoyed. I've technically written Durgetash fic. I have friends with Durgetash ships that I fucking love, and I'm sure there's more great Durgetash dynamics out there.
But, god, I'm so fucking tired of the Durgetash fandom. I'm tired of the constant assumption that Everyone ships Durgetash, right?? I'm tired of not being able to talk about Durge without Durgetash coming up, of not being able to talk about Gortash without Durgetash coming up, and I am fucking exhausted of not being able to talk about Orin without Durgetash coming up.
Like, I have no objection to Durgetash being a contributing factor to Orin's choice to stab Durge—again, I wrote that! But also, maybe art of Durgetash kissing with a tiny Orin in the corner looking mad does not need to go in the Orin the Red tag. (This is not a call out against anyone in particular. This is about the fact that this exact situation has happened more times than I can count.) Maybe it would be nice if there was a little more Orin Brainstabs Her Sibling fic that actually focused on Orin's relationship with her sibling, and not about Gortash angsting over his lost Beloved while Orin goes, "neh neh, I love being fucked up and evil and have no other personality traits!" in the background. Maybe more things in the Orin the Red tag could actually be about Orin the Red, y'know?
It's just… really hard to love any ship when my favourite character keeps getting constantly reduced to being a prop towards it. And that's not getting into the Durgetash fans I've encountered who have to make everything about their ship whenever someone dares to ship Durge or Gortash with someone different, or whenever someone dares to create a dynamic between Gortash and their own OC that isn't romantic. This is long enough already without me ranting about every unpleasant Durgetash fan I've encountered, but suffice it to say, there's been enough to put me off the ship generally.
