((Okay, so we were actually talking about this in @ask-a-squeek‘s stream a couple nights ago.

You’d have the option of targeting either Tulio or Piper. Obviously, you could attack either one, but attacking Piper would cause Tulio to fight back with more ferocity. Defeating her would really crank up the intensity of his attacks and lose you the ability to successfully spare him.

I haven’t settled yet on whether defeating Tulio would leave Piper weak and idle or cause her to flee. Maybe both; maybe you’d have the chance to spare her then. We lightly discussed on what would happen after if only Tulio was defeated (there’d be a rematch later).

Now, not killing either of them. Talking would do no good. Piper would be too nervous to respond and Tulio would just not want to. You’d have to Give them an item—probably food—before you could get on your way to sparing both.

I’m still turning the ideas in my head as far as attacks go.))

definitely Pokemon Crystal and Paper Mario 64

Crystal has a such great aesthetic value and the Johto/Kanto split made for an amazing post game and i just love it so much

Paper Mario idk man it just has such a pleasant feeling to it. It captured the story/pop-up book aesthetic in a way that they never really recaptured with the other games. I also love it because it doesnt get caught up with big useless numbers

in turn-based rpgs I never got the point of a character starting out with hp and dishing out damage with an average in the hundreds when you could just make it simpler and easier to grasp (but then again adhd proved to be a formidable roadblock in getting into most turn-based rpgs so i might be the odd one out)
