I don’t think I’ll ever be over ASM #800. Slott should not have written the Venom Symbiote as an accessory or suit. That’s a person. With thoughts and feelings, and Slott didn’t write it having a choice to save Flash. That decision was made by Flash and Peter and nobody bothered asking Venom. Flash was Venom’s best friend. The two risked their lives for each other multiple times. The fact that we never got to see the Symbiote trying to save Flash and failing, or being asked what they thought about the situation, or even being allowed to grieve. It will forever rub me the wrong way. Not to mention the weak excuse: Oh there’s still trace amounts of Anti-Venom in your system, it’ll kill the Symbiote. Bullshit. Eddie had trace amounts of worse in his system for the whole first half of Venom 2016, and Venom took over Eddie who was 100% Anti-Venom during Spider-Island without any negative repercussions. It was a bullshit excuse, to lead to a bullshit death, that never should have happened. Those two were partners and friends and you expect me to believe that Venom would just sit back and watch Flash die after everything they had been through together and not attempt to save him? No way. Venom would at least try.

So uh... Reading ASM 800.

It’s-uh... it’s pretty Peak Slott. Characters have changes of heart within two pages out of nowhere, a ton of really fanservice-y and unnecessary callbacks so you won’t notice, some really, really bad “character moments” and “redemption moments” like Peter being thrilled to have the Symbiote again and telling Otto that he now has a clean slate with him just because he took a hit for May (yes, that erases literally trying to destroy the world, killing him and stealing his body, making himself a NEW body that is literally the genetically fused “Child” of Peter and Otto, later outright joining the Nazis...) Normie hates his dad so much he wants him dead, he’s under the influence of Norman AND the Carnage Symbiote, yet the second Harry gets hurt and Norman tries to kill Liz, Normie pulls a full 180... it’s just... not good, man. Plus Slott playing up Peter x MJ again when you know he and Marvel will just yank it away from us by the end... And Did I mention that a key to the end of this issue is a MASSIVE DOSE of Plot-Induced Stupidity, followed by literally ripping off the end of Batman Forever and making little Normie Carnage? GOD Slott’s leaving on exactly the same note he’s been on for years: a big wet fart. The sole act of forgiveness that even makes sense in this issue is when he forgives Jameson. Sole one. Flash was already forgiven, he and Peter were friends, good friends. There was an entire arc about Norman using that to get to him ffs.  Just... ugh. What a waste of time and hype.
