thoughts on rituals and revivalism
@asphodel-grimoire full disclaimer this is super late and you may no longer care about it and i’m sorry it’s so late; i was hanging out with my boyfriend and then doing tracker trash things and i havent been on the Internet but now I’m reblogging Mari’s whole blog
ok, disclaimer over
what the fuck do i put on a religious calendar
whatever you want. What feels fulfilling and necessary to you? What feels doable to you? What does divination tell you your gods want you to celebrate?
how do i do rituals
there are a LOT of different ways. I can show you a formula for super-recon rituals, via Elaion. @bayoread has a Hellenic offering ritual format that can be adapted to other rituals very easily, linked in the resources list. Mari’s answer works too. like everything revivalist, you have options.
are rituals necessary
mari’s answer is my answer for this
Necessary for what? I consider them necessary for me, because they’re kinda … the backbone of my practice? Like, rituals are the main way I keep my religion infused in my life; they’re how I live my religion instead of just paying lip service to it. But others may feel differently!
how do i do festivals
I do rituals for festivals. Sometimes I abstain from eating certain things, or just make offerings to certain Theoi, rather than doing a big ritual. There are lots of things you could do. Pray or make offerings to a certain god each day of your festival (or the one day). Take a long walk to somewhere special to the deities you’re celebrating. eat food that reminds you of the deities you’re celebrating. wear jewelry dedicated to Them, read poems written about Them or in Their honor. the possibilites are endless
here is a great bit about modern festivals that could be analogous to the purposes of several of the ancient festivals
article about reconstructing festivals
how do i decide which festivals should be in which months
that depends a lot on whether you’re moving recon festivals, celebrating recon festivals as is, or making your own festivals. well. ok, for me, those things depend on the same criteria--does it fit the feel of the season. i worship on a really outdoors-related paradigm, so seasons are important to me. if it’s a recon festival that doesn’t involve the easons or the outside, i don’t move it, but if it’s something like Athesteria I move it to a weekend where there will be floewrs out. send me an ask if you wanna talk more about this
how do i decide what festivals are gonna be for (like how gamelia is specifically about hera and zeus’ marriage)
this answer is similar to another answer: What feels fulfilling and necessary to you? What feels doable to you? What does divination tell you your gods want you to celebrate?
whatever your answers to those questions are, figure out festivals to create or celebrate that fulfill those needs.

whAT THE FUCK I LOVE THIS
Thank you so much!! :)
6, 7, 14 16, 17, and 18 for the Autumn asks!
6. Trick or Treating V.S. Watch Scary movies>Watch scary movies for sure. Though on Halloween this year I’ll be working (I’m a scarer at a local haunt >:3 )!
7. Apple Pie V.S. Pumpkin Pie>This is a ridiculously tough question frickle. I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH. Uh, uh, uh, pumpkin. I think. >.<”
14. Go Hiking V.S. Sleep in>Sleep in. Always. Hypnos is my bff in the mornings.
16. Reading V.S. Writing>I love both, I really do, but I tend to beat myself up over my own writing. So reading. 17. Hot Chocolate V.S. Tea>Brace yourself for depressing news. I am 90% allergic to chocolate, so I can only have certain kinds in small amounts. Hot chocolate is, so far, always a no go. So tea.
18. Live in a Cabin In a Forest V.S. Have it be fall 24/7>Can I pick neither? DX Cabins in the forest are so quaint and nice but like, man I need the city most of the time. And I love fall but ALLERGIES. I guess I’ll have to pick fall though? >.<

asphodel-grimoire take this. I don’t even know what happened.
Miles out of town and miles from the next town still there sits a gas station.
Family owned, with only one gas pump, a bathroom that is not open to the public unless you plead with the man behind the counter and slip him a five.
No one knows why it hasn’t been bought out yet.
The guy behind the counter though, he’ll just smile slyly when asked.
Hermes watches everything from behind the counter, selling overpriced trinkets, it’s basically thievery anyway.
Skillfully he pockets cigarettes out of sight of the cameras, smiling cheerfully at the next new people to wander into the gas station.
Someone tried to rob it once, the gas station. It would have taken the county officers 45 minutes to get there but the would-be thieves were sent running by something, before the cops arrived.
It’s mostly truckers that stop by but sometimes the local kids will drive out there to try and get beer and cigarettes without getting ID’d. It never works.
The roof leaks when it rains and the food tastes like plastic after sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Hermes just shrugs and claims there’s nothing he can do about it.
More times than not the gas station will sell a winning lotto ticket but no one ever think’s it’s worth the drive to go buy one there.
Not with the guy behind the counter smirking at you when you tell him your numbers like he knows something you don’t.
