i'm writing a Zoo trip fic.

Specifically I'm compiling all the stuff that's so far been said about zoo trips on this blog, picking out what I love most (a lot of it. maybe all of it?? idk yet), adding a lot of my own thoughts and making one big coherent fic out of it. But now I'm balancing between involving everyone and keeping it mild...

This isn't an issue of getting it done, I think I have enough inspo for all of them to get a few scenes at least, but it's an issue of "would you read that ?" I'll be very happy to write it, it's just a question of interest - whether you'd like to read something so character-dense at all. Then again this is the terror fandom we're speaking of, so my hopes are high... xDD i do want to ask anyway.

I'll give more info about the choices below cut if you want more of my thoughts before deciding. im doing this as a little break between drawing ^^ i'll get back to drawing soon i just need to chill a bit before the burnout gets me lol. (also if i end up as a pin up calendar artist, i want to be in full strength ;p)

As many characters as possible. with a lot of focus - could range anywhere from 10k to 60k words. I'm leaning towards this, but that's because i have "the more the better" disease lol. This would probably be a long collection, with several chapters/fics connecting to one another. Lots of groups hanging out together, playing, their CGs chatting in the background, or just hanging out with littles they don't get to see much otherwise. i have 1k words so far and the fic hasn't even started so maybe there could be more than 60k actually holy sh-

(that makes 18) As for the wordcount.. 30k maybe? im terrible at guessing wordcounts ;_;

crozier, fitzjames, ned and jop + glimpses of others - this it the idea i first started with, but i've since expanded. I can still do this one, i don't really have much written outside of it, it wouldn't be a loss. And it'd give me opportunity to explore stuff i haven't yet done with the four of them! give them space.

just crozier, fitzjames, ned and jop - i would probably keep that at 20k at MOST. im not saying i don't have ideas for them, but it's only 4 characters! there's only so much they can reasonably experience in one day before ned gets tired and starts crying🥺

Thinking about a Terror caregivers and littles Pool/beach day!

Dadzier: wearing the most dad on vacation outfit. Showed up with a huge bag full of sunscreen, electrolyte drinks, swim diapers, extra towels, and aloe. Holding Ned on the side or holding Tom Jopson in the water.

Fitzmomma: wore a bikini and got Crozier hot and bothered. Ned or Tom will end up nursing before the day is over. Brought a bottle of white wine for herself. Judge for handstand contests and swimming races. Dundy insists on staying close if she’s in the water after the canoe incident years ago.

Jopson: the babysitter. He’s happy to run back and forth to the bathroom all afternoon, help put on goggles, dry off hands before snack, and find a missing dive toy.

Dundy: wearing the skimpiest pair of shorts and is in the water the entire time. Graham, Sol, and Pilkington spend the afternoon begging Dundy to pick them up and throw them into the water. Gets Graham on his shoulders for a game of chicken.

Blanky: isn’t interested in being in the water and is the go to caregiver for little ones who aren’t interested in getting in. Brought a miniature fan for himself but ends up super sweaty anyway because either Jopson or Collins are in his lap the entire time.

McDonald: standing in the shallow end socializing with the other caregivers. Has a timer for reapplying sunscreen. Brought extra life jackets and floaties.

Stanley: surprisingly good swimmer but prefers to sit on the side and read a book. Acts annoyed but lets Collins sit under his umbrella next to him.

Bridgens: in the water and keeping Harry close to him. Lots of praise for how good the littles are at swimming. Good at making up games for them to play.

George: wearing a bathing outfit with a skirt that Johnny loves to watch move in the water. Chatting with the adults with Velcro baby Johnny on his hip.

Heather: nervous and wishes they’d gone to the park instead. In the water not because he enjoys it but because he needs to be close in case his kids are in trouble. Hanging out with the caregivers but not paying attention because he needs to know where Sol and Tommy are.

Hartnell (big): best entertainer ever. Organizes the littles into relay teams, races, throws dive toys, and makes sure everyone is having fun.

Manson: isn’t a huge fan of water but is happy to hold a more nervous little in the shallow end and help them paddle around. Best teammate for chicken, he and Hodgson have never been beaten.

Frankie: uninterested in the water. Will sit in the surf at the beach or on the steps at a pool and play with water toys but does not want the water to go past his waist.

Jamie Clark Ross: brought a collection of toys to share with Frankie. Not interested in the other littles and if Frankie isn’t small will pout on a blanket away from the water.

Ned: swim shorts with duckies or sharks on them, a swim diaper, and a life vest. Likes to paddle around but needs Mama or Dada close by. Too little to play games with the other kids but likes to have a splash fight as long as the other person doesn’t go too hard.

Tom Jopson (small): doesn’t know how to swim but refuses to wear a float because he’s not a baby! Comes into the water if mama is in and clings to her the whole time.

Johnny: in a rash guard, hat, water shoes, diaper, and has on floaties. Loves to be pushed around in the water and giggles if you spin him. Goes down for a nap after snack.

Sol: jumped in fully dressed as soon as they arrived. Argues that he doesn’t need a diaper at the beach because the fish pee in the ocean. Has on water wings but can dog paddle pretty well. Spends the entire day in the water doing cannonballs, having splash contests, and playing chicken (he and Tommy are always on a team). Keeps trying to suck his thumb and then getting a bad taste in his mouth.

Tommy Armitage: he and Sol have matching trunks and he loves getting to match his best friend. He wants to have water wings like Sol but Bill insists he needs a life vest because he’s not a strong swimmer. Does not want his face to get wet and Sol makes sure people respect this.

Graham: #1 dog paddler. Shakes like a dog when he gets out. Will be a seal or sea lion or shark for scientist Goodsir. Bad at remembering not to run by the pool and has fallen at least once every time they go.

Harry Goodsir: imaginary play only. He’s a mermaid or a shark or an underwater explorer. Brought his flippers and a snorkel and fake treasure to dive for.

Harry Peglar: prefers to play mermaids but will go along with Harry’s other games. Has read a lot of books about shipwrecks and undersea life and shares his favorite facts. Comes back to Bridgens ever few minutes for praise and a hug.

Henry Collins: is NOT getting in the water and will cry until he’s sick if it’s even suggested that he might like to sit in the wading pool. Has a sensory tray with water and sand that Macca made him and spends his time with Uncle Blanky or Mr. Stanley. Needs a nap in the shade or he’ll get upset.

Pilkington: knows how to do an underwater somersault and shows it off at every occasion. Surprisingly strong contender for biggest splash in the cannonball contest.

Chas De Vouex: insists that he’s not scared of water. Is very scared of the water. Sits next to Stanley with the chapter book he brought and reads.

Neil Hickey: cannot swim but doesn’t let that stop him from jumping into the deep end no floaties. Has to be rescued at least five times. Will splash everyone else but gets his feelings hurt if he gets splashed.

Billy Gibson: hates the outdoors and is on his phone the entire time. Did not notice any of the times Neil was sinking and had to be rescued by Dundy.

I love putting them in situations. Today I wanted to go to the zoo but was busy so instead I wrote these!

Little Terrebites at the Zoo

Chas - ended up on the playground right away. Has not seen a single animal somehow and yet isn't bothered by this at all. Waits for Stanley to bring him ice cream otherwise he won't get down

Harry - disappeared in the insect exhibit and has not been seen since. (He will appear again when Macca calls for lunchtime) Wanted to take Jon Morfin with, but he said he was scared of bugs :(

Sophie - big big fan of the camels. If the zoo has camel rides available she will plead to Jane until she gives in and pays for one. Also collects those golden coins with animals on them.

Frankie - His faves are the seals and otters and penguins. If it swims he loves it. (Though not a big fan of crocodiles. Scary...) James bought him ice cream and he immediately dropped it on himself :(

Ed Hoar - got lost 4 times because he keeps running up ahead. The lions are his favourite. Even though they're just lying in the shade he watches them for 20 minutes (impressive!)

Sol - Calm and collected until he sees a bear - then he starts crying and Heather has to carry him for a while. Loves the smaller mammals though. Petting zoo? PETTING ZOO.

Johnny - In a stroller with a ridiculous hot-pink sun hat on (in case he gets lost). His fave is the monkey exhibit - Hodge had to take him out of the stroller lest he break it with how he started wiggling. Also a petting zoo fan

Ned - Fan of the kangaroos and after a few minutes of watching them asks James why she doesn't have a pouch too. (Made her laugh) Francis buys him soda but they end up swapping bc he doesn't like his

Graham - spent a lot of time watching the wolves and also playing with Chas on the playground. Conks out the second he sits in the car, hugging his new giraffe plush

Tom Jop - Insists he's not small and proves this by buying ice cream all on his very own! Holds Francis's hand most of the time and only lets go to go see the meerkats. Falls asleep during the car ride home

Henry Collins - Cried only once (1!!) Because one of the elephants made too loud of a noise. Has to be changed twice, but that's okay. Also he loves the moose and polar fox exhibits.

Pilks - bird enjoyer but not much of a zoo fan overall. Doesn't like walking as much and he's bored. Only has fun if Macca gives him a game to play like a "find answer to this question about this animal"

Jon Morfin - Sat down at the amphibian exhibit for half an hour because it was calm and dark and he wanted to rest. Macca chases him with a water bottle to remind him to drink a lot. He's a huge bison fan and was very disappointed that he can't pet one

I can’t believe we’ve been talking about the Little one’s being nonverbal and I completely forgot about Tommy Armitage!

Tommy is canonically deaf on one side and depending on what types of trauma they’ve been through in your personal favorite Terror babies AU he may have additional hearing loss. I headcanon Tommy as a hearing aid guy but as a kiddo I think he would frequently go without his hearing aids and sign.

Tommy’s never nonverbal but it takes some learning for other kids and caregivers to pick up on his communication style. He and Sol are rarely separated when they’re small and Sol will interrupt the other kids if they aren’t paying attention to Tommy and interprets for him. Henry Peglar might be a good playmate for Tommy because he loves to draw and write and find other communication styles.

Heather, Magnus, and Sol all know sign language and encourage Tommy to use whatever form of communication he prefers. McDonald is an expert caregiver and even though he doesn’t sign has no issues telling what Tommy needs. Crozier and Hodgson are always nervous to watch Tommy without Sol because what if they miss something and he gets upset?

Sol would love to guard Tommy when he's in ouppy mode also. Tommy doesn't mind, he likes puppies anyway. I love the image of Sol going "HEY! Tommy's talking, alright?" At other littles when henot in puppy mode.

I do think Tommy would take his hearing aid off when he's small (the way I take my glasses off when I'm tired lol, 120p vision time) Sometimes they leave it at home, but otherwise Heather brings it along in case Tommy changes his mind mid play-date. (Of course it's safely stored in its case in Heather's backpack, far away from any littles)

Tommy's very patient if someone's trying to learn to sign, sweet thing. He's not as good at teaching others so usually leaves it to Heather or Magnus, but he'll encourage them a lot <33

Hodgson first expected his Johnny-psychic powers to work on Tommy, but the little one actually talks and signs and doesn't really speak with his eyes at all and Hodge ended up crying about it. (Only once.)

Same with Crozier - he's used to Ned's babbling, he can understand it perfectly - but with Tommy it's something else entirely. He tries to learn, though, even though his hands are stiff 😌

Apologies for possibly unwanted cross-pollination but I just saw that Crozcest post you made on the other blog about Ned crawling into Thomas' bed when he can't sleep post-rescue and now I can't stop thinking about various littles crawling into bed with their caregivers, whether because they can't sleep or they have nightmares or maybe they're just afraid of the dark QwQ......

I love the idea of Nedward snuggling up with Fitzmommy so much but idk how often that could actually happen cause she's obvs sleeping with Francis usually and Ned would be too nervous and embarrassed to bother daddy in the middle of the night ;;;_;;; I'M SAD

I bet poor Johnny Morfin and Henry Collins in particular have some very restless nights :'( they should have a sleepover together to keep each other calm with Macca on hand to administer medicine as needed <3

Speaking of which, Harry Goodsir is Not Sleepy Yet, Uncle Macca! He wants to stay up and read his new library book about a brave little clam! But in the end he is convinced to turn the lights out to help Henry and Johnny sleep. He then conks out immediately. All 3 of them sleep peacefully that night. :')

On a somewhat related note, Henry Peglar is sooo a "just one more story pleeeaaassseee" kid. He's so cooperative during the day that you get blindsided by how hard it is to get him to go to sleep lmao. Will demand you do the voices too. Only Hodgson, Fitzjames, and of course Bridgens can meet his storyteller standards.

hickey and Gibson will lock their bedroom door at night and leave Sol (woken up by a bad nightmare, afraid of monsters in the dark coming to eat him) howling and crying alone in the hallway all night. Heather would you PLEASE come rescue the poor little thing!!! (and also buy him a nightlight!)

Johnny bbyving doesn't even have his own bed. He is cuddled up with mama every night. <3 Hodgmommy always makes a big deal out of checking under the bed and in the closets for monsters and reminding Johnny that nothing is ever going to hurt him as long as she's around. A nightly ritual followed by bedtime prayers and goodnight kisses. She actually has more frequent nightmares than he does and usually ends up clinging to him at night more than the other way around tbh but it's all right. He likes being swaddled. And he loves his mamma. <3

SOL NOOOOO!!! BABY BOY!!! MEAN TO HIMM ;_; On the other hand I think him and Heather would sleep in the same bed, so when he has a nightmare while at Heather's, help is right beside him🥰 What would be really messed up though is if he thought he was at Heathers and began searching for him... when was actually at Gibson's. So he'd get really scared about where Heather went and make it worse and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The Little boys getting lost exists on a scale. One end is Billy actively ditching Sol at the grocery store because he did not sign up to be his situationship’s ex’s babysitter, in the middle is Ned who knows Crozier will be back in a few minutes and will let him have a treat if he doesn’t tell mama, and the far other end is Hodgson actively making kidnapping accusations against the family who’s helping him look for his caregiver.

Also somewhere between them is Ed Hoar who - if left unguarded for long enough, will straight up run away. And at first it's fun, Yay! Freedom! But then he realizes he's lost and runs frantically around, wailing and yelling his CGs name until someone finds him/he finds them.

He has run away and got lost 8 times by now. He does not learn from it.

I know you've talked about Jopson being sort of unwilling to admit he's little and fighting the urge to go into littlespace (is that the right way to say it? sorry I'm very new to agere stuff OTL) and now I'm wondering if there are any other littles that struggle like that……

I imagine Tozer would find it a bit difficult cause he has such a strong sense of identity tied up in being a big tough guy. (Maybe if Heather also got badly injured + Tozer cared for him in this AU scenario he can persuade Tozer it's his turn to be taken care of!)

I imagine Hickey would be in denial about it quite a lot cause he'd feel like he can Not afford to be so vulnerable.

I feel like maybe Morfin, Collins, and Goodsir wouldn't have an issue with it because Macca is both a top tier caregiver and a doctor so they trust him when he tells them it's nothing to be ashamed of and also they know they can be open about "embarrassing" stuff with him anyways :') (Plus being little is such a help and relief for John and Henry, they're grateful for it <3)

I imagine Peglar on the other hand still feels awkward about it sometimes (maybe a consequence of his caregiver also being his husband?) so Bridgens has to reassure him about it. Luckily he can nearly always tell when Peglar's feeling little so he can help ease him into the space.

I don't remember if you've discussed this about Ned before and I just forgot but I imagine Ned would try to "power through" and resist a drop into littlespace just to avoid inconveniencing anyone QwQ He'd be in the middle of some task and feel himself getting overwhelmed, unable to understand the big long words on the page in front of him or even to comprehend the important grown up work he's trying to do but he'd know he's SUPPOSED to be doing this thing and he'd panic and just make his poor little self more upset until Fitzmommy or someone came in to tell him it's all right, they'll take care of everything. I figure Fitzjames, Jopson, etc. try to tell him to just come get them when he feels that way, but he always tries to fight it anyways, trying to finish just one more task…… :(

I feel like Johnny Irving would be very ashamed and in denial of it. Obviously. It breaks his poor mama's heart cause she loves him SO much and she just wants him to be happy and not suffer!!! And also he is a nightmare to deal with when he fights it lmao. He can put off going into littlespace for a while but he just gets into a worse and worse mental state as it goes on, obviously upset and overstimulated and angry but unwilling to let go.

And he snaps at Hodgson more than anyone because deep down he knows he needs mama to fix it and she's NOT (because, of course, he's not letting her.) If she's lucky she can get him to agree to lie down for a bit (not a nap, definitely not a nap! He just has a bit of a headache and he's resting his eyes!) and after a bit of hair petting and lullaby humming he'll wake up calling her mama. But sometimes he does end up in full blown tantrum mode yelling that he's NOT A CHILD while crying and stamping his foot. Exhausting ordeal but Johnny is always extra cuddly and sweet once it's over and he usually stays little for a while afterwards.

Hodgson is not brave enough to bring any of this up when he's feeling big but sometimes when he's little mama has him pinkie-promise to always be her darling little angel and never grow up and he always smiles and links their fingers together and doesn't understand why it makes her cry.

I've never thought about Tozer as struggling particularly hard with it but now that you're talking about it (especially if he's not scarred by losing Heather and seeing Collins loose his soul) he would be more attatched to the "I'm supposed to be xyz, i can't be little". So i definitely him not wanting to let go!

Really agree with your point abt Ned... He'd try hard not to fall into little space if he has stuff to do or people around him are too busy... Unfortunately that doesn't tend to go very well 🥹

Johnny pinky promise- EXCUSE ME WHILE I CRY WTH, ANON. Another boy I haven't thought much abt in terms of resisting... it does make sense though! 'He's NOT a child!' AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. And of course he'd work himself up into a headache-inducing tantrum sigh.
