I hope you like it, either way i made it for myself and just ended up sharing som.. hope you enjoy it. If you have a request about any VnC character or a character from a fandom i have posted about, don't hesitate to send me!)
Today, you had a mission with Astolfo's squad, to go to an abandoned place where it's said that some vampires fled to, and kill them.
The team was getting ready, putting on cloaks, sharpening swords.
You were the healer of the group, the one to help an injured chasseur in case they were so badly injured that they wouldn't be able to make it through the return journey and rush to the medics.
And well... Being positioned on Astolfo's unit... Had it's challenges.
Astolfo would always let you help anyone who gets hurt, but the problem is... He NEVER lets you take care of him.
"Oh my, you have a burn in you cheek. Here, this ointment will-..."
Before you were able to apply the ointment, Astolfo took a step back with a scowl on his face.
"Who told you you could touch me?"
"Captain Astolfo! Your head is bleeding! Here let me..."
Before you could approach him with bandages, he was walking away.
"Tch, I'm fine, it's not like I'm going to die." He'd say arrogantly, having you frozen in place with an expression of pure confusion in your face
"Captain Astolfo! Your leg have been stabbed! Here, come sit and I'll bandag-..."
He turned to you like you were talking crazy.
"What? Are you an idiot? The vampire is still alive, have to slain the heretic!"
And like that he injected himself with some of the chasseur's medicine to numb the pain and started walking after the vampire.
"WITH ME!!!" He yeld at Marco and the rest of his unit.
Your eyes were wide with disbelief.
"WHA-... WAIT! COME BACK! YOU CAN'T JUST.... Uuhhmph..."
Yep, he pretty much avoided any kind of help, he simply dismissed and hummed arrogantly.
When you were hired as a healer for the church's anti-vampire unit, you were trembling to say the least. I mean...? You'd follow chassuers on their missions to kill vampires, watch the fights to observe which members got injured and then TAKE ACTION? Rather stressful working environment.
Roland Fortis was the first one to greet you with a sunny smile and a CRUSHING hug, unlike his partner, Olivier, who simply nodded and told you to catch up.
When you were assigned to work on Astolfo's unit, Roland said:
"Oh you have nothing to worry about, dear Y/n! Astolfo isn't that bad! He can be a bit... Loud.. and insulting... But other than that, I'm sure you two will get perfectly along!" He said encouragingly. " Astolfo doesn't have many friends you see! I'm sure the moment he'll lay his eyes on you he'll give you a warm welcome to the unit!"
Yea... Well... How do you define warm?
Warm was sure not the feeling you felt when Astolfo glowered at you when they introduced you.
Though, considering everyone in the church's chassuers unit was an grown adult, you felt a bit more relaxed having Astolfo as captain of the unit. It gave you the illusion that you weren't as much out of place as you'd thought.
And as the weeks pasted, Astolfo seemed to address to you more and more when he felt like making a small talk with someone. It seemed that the more you worked with him, the more he got used to your presence and maybe grew a bit more comfortable in it.
"I can't believe Roland forced me out of my room just to eat that disgusting lunch."
Astolfo said with a scowl as he sat down on the desk of the small library.
You giggled from over the crouch of the library with a file on your lap.
"It wasn't that bad! Captain Roland is really creative when it comes to cooking. You know, i quite liked that soup." You stated. "Though, i do think there were some bits of fish in that chicken soup." You said skeptically as you stretched your tongue to move a piece of meat out from between your teeth.
Astolfo looked over at you with disbelief and wide eyes before giggling.
"Oh great, then please have my dinner portion as well." He said and crossed his legs and hands. "Though if you like Roland's cooking, i suggest you have your taste buds checked."
You giggled and looked down at the papers in you lap.
Let's just say you couldn't help but grow attracted to the young Paladin. His pink, silky hair, his soft pale skin, his nice pitched voice, he slim but steady body. He may be a bit short but he certainly had his own charm, after all he definitely wasn't shorter than you.
"So! They say our next mission will be on an abandoned mansion. Sounds creepy, hah."
You said at you read the details of he mission, when you picked up Astolfo's quietness.
"Mm? Captain Astolfo? Are you alright?" You titled your head.
The young Paladin kept his eyes away from your direction.
"Tch, of course i am? Why do you ask? Can't you see I'm thinking?" He complained.
"Well, you usually love to criticise every location of our assistanted missions. This old mansion is said to be abandoned... Oh boy and quite bloodied they say? Jeez, what happened to the place" You continued as you looked through the pictures in the file with the information.
His body froze for a second and his bottom lip quivered before standing up with an annoyed huff and walking out of the room aggressively.
You blinked surprise and felt an ache of anxiety reach your chest.
"Astolfo? W-wait! I'm sorry, what did i-"
Before you could finish, he left the room, and when he crossed the door, Olivier entered a bit confused by the way Astolfo nudged his shoulder of his way out. "What the-"
The long raven haired man turned to you with an annoyed expression.
"What's with him" He asked, pointing at the door with his thumb.
You looked up at the Paladin unprepared.
"I... Don't know. I talked to him about our next mission and he got kind of upset." You looked down at the map with the information about the mission.
Olivier signed and walked towards you.
"Well, Astolfo can never be quite satisfied, no matter the circumstances of his missions." He leaned over your shoulder and took a look at the information on your lap. When his eyes met the pictures of the mansion a surprised breath left his lips. He knew that place, and he visited the family that luved there a lot of times with his father, before it became abandoned.
You noticed the change in the atmosphere and looked up at him.
"Huh? What's wrong? Do you recognise this place?" You asked curiously.
"....Y/n, that's Astolfo's old family house"
You felt you body freeze and your heart squeeze in sadness.
Astolfo's old home? This... Blooded, dark, miserable mansion? You almost heard you heart crack at the unexpected news.
You knew Astolfo must have come from a noble house, after all, he had way of acting quite spoiled around other people. But you didn't know something traumatic happened in his past.
When the moon come out and brightened up the dark sky, you got out of your bed and wore your soft slippers before lighting a candle and leaving your room. You walked through the dark catacombs and made your way to Rolands room.
When you knocked, Roland cracked the door open with a surprised expression. He was probably getting ready to sleep.
"Oh? Y/n?! What a surprise. Bonne soirée! Come in!" His emerald eyes shined and he opened the door to invite you in. You walked in humbly, holding the candle on one hand and with the other, hugging the file to your chest.
"Bonjour Roland, I'm so sorry to interrupt."
"Oh no, no need to apologise! I love having visitors, no matter what time it is. My door is always open for you!" He said with a bright smile on his face, which was decorated by his blond curls.
"How can i help you?" He asked and gestured over his table.
You smiled and took a seat. "Soo... Umm... Astolfo has a new mission, he got upset when he learnt about the location and walked away. Monsieur Olivier told me this is his old house...?" You hesitantly presented the pictures at Roland, acknowledging the sensitivity of the subject.
Roland's eyes wided and his face darkened.
He leaned forward on his seat and suppoted his elbows upon his knew.
"Well... I don't know if I'm in position to talk about Astolfo's past... But let's just say that his family mansion was indeed raided."
Your chest tightened and your palms got sweaty. "...What happened...?"
Roland looked down. "Astolfo's family got murdered by vampires." Your eyes wided and a silent gasp left your lips. "The young boy... He was far too kind...."
When you were walking through the dark catacombs, you tried to prosses the new information, your hand that held the candle trembling.
Astolfo's family was killed by vampires?
Wasn't house Granatum known for it's high rank among the Paladins?
Was that why Astolfo refuses to be treated and always neglected the needs of his body in missions?
Because killing vampire has been his top priority as an act of justice for his family?
Without realising it, you made your way to the library. Mira gleefully (tipsy) greeted you and let you in.
You placed the candle on the desk and looked around the bookshelves.
"Mm... There must be a book or a piece of newspaper about the Granatum Tragedy... I heard Monsieur Georze and Maria say that-"
"GHHAAA!" You squeaked and jumped as you heard a stern familiar voice behind you. You slowly turned around to meet with Astolfo's form, sitting on a desk with a book and a warm light, wearing his white shirt with a pastel coloured cotton shawl around his shoulders. He started at you with a quiet expression and a raised eyebrow in criticism.
You felt your face heating up in embarrassed and panic.
"I-i uummm... Well... I uuhh... You see i was.."
You tried to find the words and his expression hardened.
"It's a simple question, really." He said.
"Yes. Uumm, i was looking for information about the location of our next mission! That way i could know if there is a room with medicines in the mansion in case of emergency! Y-you know... To take what remained-"
"There is indeed a room with medicines and firs aid kit." He interrupted and looke down at his book to pretend to keep reading.
Your eyes wided and you blinked surprised, as you didn't expect of him to actually show evidence that he knows of the place.
"O-oh really? How nice... I'll make sure to see if there are any medicines left in this... Beautifully... Wonderful... Abandoned... Mansion...." You said nervously, spitting one nonsense after another in an attempt to not offend his dear old home.
He looked up from his book and raised an eyebrow at you in with an annoyed expression.
"Soooo... How do you know that mansion so well to know there are medicines and a first aid kit?"
His faces turned even more annoyed. "Every building has at least a first aid kit and some medicine. It's not rocket science."
She blushed in embarrassment and looked down. "Right! Right... Sorry..."
Astolfo noticed your rosy cheeks and his face softened just a little before slightly blushing too and turning his eyes back on his book. "But if you must know... That used to be my home once, the mansion of House Granatum."
So he was willing to let his connection with that place be known.
You acted like you didn't already know that from Roland.
He sighed annoyed and stood up, closing his book with a slight thumb.
"Tch, jeez go to sleep, we have a long mission tomorrow, freak." He crossed the room and turned around to take one last look at you. You we still standing on your knees upon the couch to look through the bookshelve, two books fallen on the couch and floor from the moment he startled you earlier. Your expression nervous and guilty like a cat being lifted by it's nape.
The corners of his lips threatened to lift up into an entertained smile.
"Don't stay up late, okay?" He huffed "Night cherie." He closed the door behind him and left you frozen in your place, with your cheeks slowly warming up.
She blushed madly and tried to prosses what just happened.
(You can bet when Astolfo reached his room, he freaked out and screamed in his pillow.
"WHAT DID I SAID??? "cHeRiEeeEeE" BLEH!! I'M SUCH AND IDIOT!!!" He kept yelling at his pillow and then covered his burning face with his pastel pink cotton shawl.)
