I adore the scary x scary dynamic, like it's actually one of my favs.
Even better when it's like just a normally unapproachable person who's usually very composed, but immediately gets angry/ loses it when it comes to their lover (aka entering scary mode or smth). And they're just terrifying in that state, not in a loud, obnoxious screaming at someone way. But it's like you can visibly see their jaw tighten, and a clear scowl on their face as their eyes narrow slightly while they start questioning the asshole's stranger's motives immediately after getting between said lover and other person.
Like imagine going somewhere with your lover, like a mall, park or anywhere with a number of people and someone just decides to stir up trouble with you in particular. You don't react, and the other takes it as a sign that they're not being taken seriously. And so their temper rises, volume gets louder, words get sharper, more aggressive. While you're just trying to diffuse the situation and understand their side, your lover knows you can handle this yourself.
But seeing someone else talk like that to you really shortens their fuse, and if you didn't have all your focus on the current argument you'd notice their usually relaxed hand curled up into a tight ball.
They can't stand it anymore, quickly placing themselves between the both of you while very subtly pushing the other person back with just enough (controlled) strength so they wouldn't fall onto the ground (and potentially give the other person a reason to extend this unnecessary argument further). You know how they look at people usually, they've never once held their head up high, acting all arrogant and mighty.
Yet this wasn't like them at all, never in the long(or short) span of time you've spent together have you ever heard them tell someone to fuck off with THAT tone. Like actually fuck off, no changing up their words or anything.
Yeah your lover LOOKS scary, but they've never actually acted in a way that would make them seem scary...atleast you've never seen it(now you have).
They're usually nice, polite, understanding, never looked like they wanted to punch someone at all... wait what.
You quickly drag them away from the scene to prevent anything further from happening, (purposefully) not apologizing to the person screaming at you two to come back and continuing on your way until the both of you are far enough from all the commotion.
And they immediately start melting against you with a heavy sigh, their arms holding you tighter than usual. Also engaging in alot more pda than they usually show. Even though they don't exchange any words with you in the moment, you know they've started to calm down by the way their shoulders relax when your hands rest against their back.
Luckily you can't see their expression, but just know they're going to have a nice little talk with a certain troublemaker after this. Definitely not gonna kill them <3
Characters! (I think match this thing idk):
Genshin impact: flins, zhongli, kinich, Neuvillete, cyno, diluc, xiao
Honkai star rail: dan heng(special il), dan feng, anaxa, mydei, luocha, gallagher, sunday(pre ae), moze
Demon slayer: giyuu, gyomei, kokushibo, douma(in a specific scenario where he's as angry as when kanao spoke to him)
+your favs! (Or whoever you think fits this dynamic atleast)
-----------------------------------------------------------
I spent more time brainstorming which character would work the best w this rather than the actual writinf 😭

Somewhere only we know 🎵
You act like you hate Dan Feng so much that the High Elder decided to get some advice from the other High Cloud Quintet members.
Baiheng:
Tells him to show you a special place to him, sharing is caring. She knows he is super stubborn about his freedom, but if he really cares about your opinion and feelings then he could let go for a little bit.
Jingliu:
She encourages him to listen to Baiheng because she doesn’t have her own guidance. All she offers in words is, “Baiheng is right.”
Jing Yuan:
For once the youngest brat had a good idea: Giving a gift or two. He found out from Baiheng and Jingliu that Dan Feng wanted to impress you and told the Vidyadhara that people appreciate gifts. Jing Yuan started listing ideas, “Flowers, tickets for a play, the ideas are limitless!” Dan Feng begrudgingly listened for hours.
Yingxing:
The Blacksmith is Dan Feng’s best friend, so surely the saying ‘Save the best for last’ really fits. Dan Feng came to the forge while Yingxing was working. As soon as Dan Feng asked for advice, Yingxing had the urge to tease the High Elder about asking for advice on how to court you of all people. Honestly, Yingxing thought that you two hated each other. But Yingxing held his tongue and advised Dan Feng: “Just change your rude way of speaking to them. They might not like being called names. Be nice to them.” His advice was solid. And the High Elder sighed.
Dan Feng complained, “I suppose that is why they call me High Elder constantly and everyone else by name. Alright, I will be less…rude to them.”
With everyone’s advice, he hopes that you will hate him less.
i was wondering if u could do au where df would not be sentenced to reincarnation but instead to just spend all the remaining time in prison as he is and y/n is like a usual shackling prison guard who just occasionally visits df cleans him changes clothes brings tea and sweets etc
Treated as Such
Sedition! Dan Feng x Guard! Reader
You, a guard in the shackling prison, take care of Dan Feng and treat him as human; even when he feels like he doesn’t deserve it.
Idk if I should have shaking prison guard! Reader or just guard! Reader. But the former is like super long for no reason lmao I’ll just leave it like that
Warnings: Prison neglect, implied SH (up for interpretation), malnourishment, threats of execution
You could hear the many prisoners groaning mad grumbling in their cells, unsatisfied with their current situation. Some looked up at you in hope and deflated when you passed by, others glared at you like you were the bane of their existence.
Not that you cared. It was their own fault that they were sentenced here, the Lufou makes sure no one that is innocent will be wrongfully punished. The Ten-lords commission was extensive in their efforts and investigations of criminals. There were no exceptions.
Well, perhaps one, in your eyes.
The High Elder, the Imbibtor Lunae, stuck in his cell on the lowest level of the shackling prison. Yes, it was expected, his actions were called the sedition for a reason. No one in his place would get off completely free and go unpunished. That’s just not how that works, no matter the bias you felt towards the person.
And you felt a lot of bias. Anyone would when their best friend had committed a horrible, treacherous crime (in the eyes of the Lufou). Of course you all but begged in a very professional manner to be the guard over him. You didn’t trust anyone else, especially not some Vidyahdara that currently hate him and about half the preceptors. The things you overheard about what they want to do to him was sick.
You walked down the many steps of the prison, going farther and farther until you reached the cold, lower level. The aura was all encompassing, pressing down on what felt like your soul, trying to leave you frozen in fear. It didn’t work, you’ve experienced much worse than the criminals down here— which is saying something.
“High Elder.” You announced as you entered his cell, needing to keep up your image. “Your meal.”
He didn’t respond. Figures.
Your eyes shifted, looking around, scanning your surroundings to make sure no one was here and/or listening. Once that was confirmed, you closed the cell door and approached him, “Dan Feng. It’s me.”
This time, he opened his dull, teal eyes. There were bags underneath, hinting at his lack of his rest over the time he’s been in here. He was skinny, his clothes hanging looser than you personally would’ve liked. You set down the tray in front of him, sitting down and grabbing the spoon, scooping up whatever food was on the metal and holding it up.
Dan Feng narrowed his eyes, his face turned slightly away.
“You need to eat.” You said sternly.
He didn’t say anything to you, but his displeasure was radiating. A stubbornness and pride that should not be there at all. “Eat,” you repeated, holding the spoon closer.
He leaned back.
“Dan Feng.” The scowl was apparent on your face as you scooted closer, moving the tray as you forcefully grabbed his jaw, putting the spoon against his lips. “Do not make me force feed you because I will. And you know it.”
The contemplation was roaming in his pupils, debating on the power and control that he had, and realizing he had none. Denying you would cause more harm than good at this point in his life. He’s stuck with you whether he likes it or not; he might as well comply.
Well, that’s what you thought what he thought. You can’t read him as well as he does you.
With a huff and a sigh, he reluctantly opened his mouth, letting you put the spoon on his tongue. His face scrunched at the taste, but he swallowed soon enough. “See,” you scooped more food, “was that so hard.”
If glares could kill, you would’ve been stuck in an infinite death loop.
You continued to hand feed the man until half of the food was gone. He leaned away from you, refusing to eat anything else. You weren’t going to force him any longer either, so long as he got something in his stomach, you were satisfied enough.
With a grunt, you stood up from the ground, holding the tray and spoon in your hand. You glanced at him, seeing the way he did the same, his chains clanging against each other as he moved. He sat on a small platform on the other side of the cell, crossing his legs and closing his eyes.
You left him alone, climbing up those many steps to go watch over the next prisoner.
“Well?” One of your fellow guards asked, their arms crossed and a scornful expression on their face. “How’s the traitor doing, hm?”
“Fine.” You answered, scraping the food in the trash and placing it on the conveyer belt to get cleaned. You wondered if you could request something more nutritious, filling preferably. Perhaps even supplements for the lack of vitamins he needs, especially the sun.
“I don’t know why you bother.” They scoffed, “He should’ve been executed.”
“That’s not in our jurisdiction.”
“So what? It’s better than letting him live.”
“Take it up with the ten-lords commission, but remember your place.” You clicked your tongue, refusing to talk to them any longer as you made your way to your assigned station. You didn’t want to deal with that any longer than you had to. They always love to start trouble. You weren’t in the mood for it.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
“Here,” you set folded clothes down in front of Dan Feng, stepping back as he glanced down at the fabrics. “It’s what I could find. But it should be warmer than that,” you pointed to his dirtied and ripped uniform. The pristine white now a tough, textured brown. The silver was ripped, and any designs were muddled or gone. A mockery of what he used to be.
You walked over to the corner to grab the silver bucket and sponge, grumbling at the dirty water. Cleaner than what the prisoners had, but you weren’t a fan. Still, you took it, putting the sponge in the water and squeezing out the excess water.
Dan Feng had already taken off his uniform, standing bare with his back towards you. There was dirt caked on his skin, scratch marks— both new and healing, his hair was greasy and tangled. A far cry from his routine of clean and polished. You weren’t sure if he hated his state or fully believed he deserved to be in this state.
You set the bucket near his feet, taking the sponge and scrubbing against his back. While he didn’t react with his body, his tail gave all of his emotions away. It twitched when you became too rough or scrubbed too hard at a wound. It curled when you went over a spot that must’ve been bothering him. Sometimes, it would hold onto your ankle, trembling with nerves before quickly letting go.
It didn’t bother you, what he’s been through, what he’s going through, was and is a lot. You didn’t know how he was handling it, not on a personal level. But you’d do anything and everything in your power to make him feel a semblance of human.
You moved over his body, from the back to the front, his sides, under every part to make sure he was clean. By the time you were done, the water was muddy and filled with things you didn’t want to name. You bit the inside of your tongue at the fact that was the only clean water. You’d have to go back up to get more to wash his hair.
He only breathed, his eyes hazy and downcast. He wasn’t really there, you could tell. It pained you to see.
“I’ll be back,” you told him, handing the new clothes to him, “Put these on. It’s cold.” And he did. Dazed, not truly present, but at least he was responding.
Grabbing the water was tedious and long. You had to take multiple trips and travel all around the prison to find three buckets, fill them with clean water, make sure it didn’t spill, grab som products, and travel back down. You desperately wished there was a better way of travel. But then again, it’s a prison. What did you expect?
You panted as you finally came back into his cell, groaning and complaining loudly before walking towards him with a three buckets, “Okay! Alright, I got the buckets and… stuff,” You gestured to your weirdly shaped cylinder pocket, “for your hair.”
He only stared. You only rambled on, “That was long, let me tell you.” You set the buckets down, coming up behind him and grabbing chunks of his hair to start raking through, “There’s gotta be a better way to get down here. I know there won’t be because…” you waved your hand in emphasis, “you know— but still. It’s tedious.”
Hands ran through tangled hair, being as gentle as possible to get out the knots and shedding strands. It was a lot, much longer than you expected. By the time you were done, there was a hairball next to your legs, and you didn’t even use the water.
“I forget how much hair you have.” You whined, dragging one of the buckets over. You stood in front of him, telling him to lean down as you brought his hair over his head. He did so, letting you put it in the water and seeing it go foggy. You ran your hands through the wet strands, bringing out more hairs, getting out more knots, washing more of the dirt out.
Three buckets, refilled at least five times, and a solid seven hours later, Dan Feng’s hair was finally— finally — clean.
You wiped your head, exhausted in ways you didn’t think you could feel, but proud of the work you’ve done. “Phew,” you exhaled, “done. I’m done. By Lan’s bow, that took so long…”
Dan Feng barely reacted to his now clean hair, only reaching a hand up to touch it and then setting it back down in his lap. He took a deep breath and stood to go sit back at his platform.
It was to be expected.
You stood, gathering the buckets and products, and climbed those long stairs to return the buckets and head back to your station.
You avoided the guards talking with one other, ignoring their cruel words about the prisoners. They weren’t worth your time. All you needed to do was focus on you and your job, nothing else.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
You handed a cup of tea to Dan Feng, sitting across from him on his platform. The ground was still hard, but you managed to get him a cushion down here. At least it was more comfortable than laying or sitting down with cricks in your neck and a sore butt.
The two of you drank your tea in silence. At least, until he spoke.
“Thank you.” His voice was hoarse and not louder than a whisper due to its disuse. It was the firth words he spoke in the months, maybe years— you don’t remember— he’s been in here. Your eyes snapped up, shock crossing over your face, and you quickly snapped out of it.
“Uh, you’re welcome.” You offered a smile, “but there’s no need.”
He shook his head, “You don’t have to do any of this for a traitor like me—“ he held his hand up before you could protest at his choice of words to describe himself, “— but you did. You made the effort to make me feel human, even when I don’t think of myself as such.”
He gazed down at his cup, watching the tea ripple with his trembling hands, “So thank you.”
Your heart ached terribly in your chest. You set your cup down, crawling towards him, and bringing him into a warm embrace. Or as warm as you could make it. He tensed, only for a moment, and then melted into your arms. He didn’t sob, he didn’t wheeze, he didn’t shake, but he did let tears slip down his face. He let himself feel what he needed to after so long of holding it in.
You simply let him.
A/N: Definitely an upgrade for Dan Feng. My other fic about his time in the shanking prison lowkey broke me
Felt like in the event where Preceptors just give up on Dan Feng completely and he is left to rot in the Shackling Prison he actually becomes very pliant when ppl (you) handle him?? Like now that his most major stress factor is gone he unexpectedly finds himself at ease, and there surely must be more going on, but after all its Dan Feng so he will probably never tell you specifics :)
But other than whats going on in his head he just lets you handle him however you please, from taking care of his broken horns (he got too used to pain to the point where its never too rough) to handfeeding him as if he were a mere animal (worst part is finding something that is both simultaniously nice to his tastes and appropriate for his broken fangs) to even use him if you want to… At some point you start to think that he treats _himself as a thing now instead of human so you still occasionally bring him books, new blankets (its still cold in the shackling prison, and hes still a lizard), even maybe board games because you actually want him to. Think. Do something. Bc even if he gave up on himself it doesnt mean that you must too. And even though he keeps to himself now even more than before, at some point his, though now bandaged, tail curls in your lap again.
Hiii I'd like to ask for Dan Feng crumbs. Dan Feng x Reader but in corporate, with Dan Feng having a high position and reader is just some randomass worker.
They're married but hiding it so things don't have to be messy in the company but they slip up sometimes. Like accidentally grabbing each others employee card or smth
Just throw in some crack and some ✨imagination✨ THANK YOUUUU
Slip Ups
Dan Feng x Reader
You and Dan Feng are in cooperate. Uhm. Yeah
Warnings: Mentions of cheating (not for either of you)
Working in the same company as your spouse is completely fine and normal.
Working in the same company as your spouse when no one knows, on the other hand, is very difficult. Even more so when you’ve stayed with said spouse for so long you barely notice yourself doing things an average employee is not supposed to do with upper management.
Yes, your beautiful and precious husband, Dan Feng, managed to work his way up in the company and landed a spot on one of the best teams that works directly with the CEO. You’re very proud of his dedication and hard work. In fact, you encouraged him to keep going with his degrees just to make more money.
You were just an average employee. Not manager, not supervisor. None of it. Did you want to be? Absolutely not. You were not a fan of the attention. It was better to be in the background than to be in the spotlight, in all honesty. So long as you did your work, clocked out when needed, and minded your business, you’ll do it.
Sometimes you guys would slip up. I mean, it happens. You live together, you’re around each other a lot, so it should come as no surprise when you only realized you grabbed the wrong badge when you went to print something off and seeing your husband’s name instead.
Or when he would be down on your floor, go to your desk, take your coffee and go about his day. Oblivious to the stares that he got because you loved your coffee. You almost hit somebody over it too a few years ago but this man just snatched it right off your desk while you were sitting there.
You didn’t even flinch. You went to grab it, paused at the empty spot, and then just… kept working??? Hello?????
It also didn’t help that your floor was nosy. They gossiped and talked too much for your liking. So you had to be vigilant about being around each other. Don’t mess it up, don’t let people suspect you had something going on, stay low, stay quiet.
Email from: Dan Feng — Executive
What do you want for dinner?
You stared at your computer, the saxophones loud in your ears because one of your coworkers was talking to you about some TV show you couldn’t give less of a fuck of, and only stopped talking when they saw the email.
“Uhm,” they stared at you, “Why is Dr. Feng asking you about dinner?”
You could not, for the life of you, come up with a good excuse, “Because.”
“Because what?” They crossed their arms, their eyes narrowing in accusation.
You turned to them, “You can worry about my business when you give me the schedule I assigned to you three weeks ago.”
They sputtered, “I-I’m getting to it—“
“The amount of time you took to talk could’ve been used getting the schedule.”
“But—“
“Take the hint.” You watched as they sulked and went back to their desk. At least they were aware if they tried to gossip, you’d hold the fact they haven’t gotten work done over their head.
You typed on your computer.

You cannot email me on the work computers.
It didn’t take long for you to get a response.
Reply from: Dan Feng — Executive
Whoops.
You facepalmed, taking out your phone and texting him.
Damn him. You did tell them that.
Okay, sure. You both messed up a little bit, it wasn’t too noticeable unless someone was really paying attention. You could say low and discreet about everything.
It would’ve worked if Dan Feng hadn’t came down to your floor later that same day (again) and handed you a folder. “I need this done by the end of the week, dear—“
You quickly gave him a look, knowing he was going to call you one of those endearing names that he uses. You would’ve loved it otherwise. Just… not in this environment.
He, thankfully, took the hint and set the papers down on your desk. You sighed in relief when he left and surprisingly didn’t draw anymore attention to himself.
Alas, your little plan to stay hidden didn’t work as well as you both thought. Yes, yes, sure, you’ve been married for a few years now and worked at the company for a while now, but everybody else — specifically Dan Feng’s entire team — knew.
Honestly, they just loved to tease you both endlessly about it because you both were awful at hiding your relationship. The only reason it hasn’t gotten out to the other floors is because of them.
The boss knew. They’ve been known but they haven’t done anything because Dan Feng is good at his job and you keep your head down and do the work.
They definitely would’ve fired anybody else, but you both just got lucky. And plus, the boss knows you didn’t want to start anything anyway.
Which is why it was so funny when an entire cheating scandal was going on at your floor for several weeks, causing work to pile up. You did your part, of course, and helped your coworkers, who minded their business, with theirs too.
You just didn’t expect to get caught up in said scandal
“So who are you cheating on me with, huh?!” One of the workers shouted at her partner, clearly furious. Even more so when he’s been stuttering and lying this entire time. It was pathetic to watch.
“Like you even know—“
“No! I know it’s someone in the company so who?! Huh?!”
The man pointed at you, of all people, “They’re obviously a better girlfriend than you! All you do stalk me constantly and you’re just a bitch all the time!”
You pointed at yourself.
You???? What did you do?????
The woman turned her anger on you, “Are you fucking kidding me?!”
You outright laughed at both of them, “I don’t even talk to him.”
“Don’t even bother lying right now—“
You held up your left hand, “I’m married.”
Silence. Crickets. Everyone stared at you like you’ve grow a second head. This is only of the only times being married was a benefit. The other times it becomes a headache because your husband is like that best friend that you’re so close with they annoy the hell out of you despite the fact you love them a lot.
The woman pointed at the man, “You just lied to me again!”
“I-I didn’t— They cheated with me—!”
“Why are you all yelling?” And the devil shall appear. You twisted in your swivel chair, gesturing a hand over, “Hubby.”
Dan Feng raised a brow but went along with it anyway, “Wife.”
Everyone gaped again.
“But seriously.” He stared at the commotion, “I can hear you two floors up. We’re backed up on work, I don’t need to know who cheated on what. Just get your stuff done and turned in.”
Not like his words mattered anyway because that next week? Everybody who was behind on work for over three weeks were laid off— let go— fired.
Thank goodness you had your husband vouch for you. Well, you vouched for yourself and the boss could see the work you’ve already turned in, but still.
Those workers got replaced, and the office was quiet for once. It was heavenly.
Now you can be as unhinged as you want.
Dan Feng threw his phone across the room, his face dusted in red. His team whipped their heads at the sound, everybody very much concerned.
“You good?” Yingxing asked.
“Fine.” He strained.
That was not a slip up

Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
You yelled in pain as you crumbled to the floor, feeling the awful throbbing of the impact in your foot, knee, arm, and shoulder— much too close to your neck. Five people stormed into your home, all aiming guns as they stood over you, faces hidden by masks and sunglasses.
“Bastards!” You spat, holding your knee as blood stained your clothing. “Absolute bastards!”
“Quit talking or else we’ll shoot that tongue out.” One of them told you, a burly man that looked like he could throw you with a single finger. Not that you cared, you’d still claw his face off if he tried it. “You’re lucky we don’t have orders to kill you.”
“Too bad. I do.”
Relief flooded through your body as another gun went off, shooting three of the people surrounding you in the head. The other two scrambled away, barely dodging the bullets aimed in their direction. You had to crawl from the burly man that toppled over like an unstable tower.
“I’ve never been more thankful for you being a freeloader.” You groaned as Baiheng helped you up, feeling her wrap your good arm around her neck, her other hand holding your side. “You can thank me later, Yingxing is waiting for us in the car.”
“You knew?” You hobbled quickly by her side, hearing three distance shots through the windows and yells of pain paired with the thump of bodies. “That they would be here?”
“Not us.” She led you through the backdoor where the white haired man rushed over, taking you in his arms and cursing underneath his breath, “Come on. We’ll take you somewhere safer.”
“Dan Feng had an idea they’d pull a stunt like this.” The purple haired woman explained as she hopped into the backseat once you were settled, quickly digging around in the bag on the ground for medical supplies.
Yingxing threw himself in the driver’s seat, moving so fast his movements were a blur as the car went from reverse to drive and sped down the street. You held back colorful words as you were jostled, especially when Baiheng pressed gauze against your wounds.
“How many?” The man asked.
“Four. Foot, knee, forearm, and the bullet skimmed the trapezius.” She answered, quickly wrapping your wounds as fast as possible.
“Lucky me.”
“You’re taking this surprisingly well.”
“It’s not the first time I’ve been shot.”
“Great. I love maniacs.” Baiheng attempted to lighten up the mood, and it would’ve worked in any other situation. Just… not this one. At least not for her and Yingxing, if you weren’t in so much pain, this would be an average Tuesday.
“So who’s they, exactly?” You asked them, huffing when the white bandages turned red. “The ones who sent those guys?”
“The Preceptors.” The two answered in unison. “Dan Feng’s little band of advisors,” Yingxing told you. “A council, if you will.”
“Real old school too.” Baiheng added, grabbing her phone and typing like her life depended on it, “They’re all about their traditional values and staying with their own—“
“—Conservatives,” Yingxing interjected.
“— and they’re annoying as hell.” She dialed a number, holding you as the car served again.
“Well?” Came a calm, monotone voice on the phone.
“Lingsha! Baby! Hey, we kinda need your help.”
“Another favor? If this is about what happened last year the answer is no—“
“Nothing like that at all! We got a friend who got shot and we need to bring them over.”
“My answer is especially no, then.” The woman, Lingsha, scoffed on the other line.
Yingxing reached in the backseat, snatching the phone from her and putting it on speaker, “How about you hurry up and get a bed open for the boss’ spouse or we’re all gonna have problems.”
“Are you threatening me?”
“No, but Dan Feng will sure as hell kill you.”
The silence stretched on too long for anyone to be comfortable, and Yingxing yelled into the phone, “Lingsha!”
“Alright! Fine! Bring them in, just quit yelling. You’re going to give me a hearing advisory.”
Yingxing threw the phone back to the purple haired woman once the call ended, blazing through the streets at such a fast pace it would demolish another car. You didn’t care in the slightest, only that you needed to hurry up and get care.
“Am I that famous?”
Baiheng snorted, “Ha! Any one of us are famous because we’re connected with Dan Feng. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is purely up for discussion.”
“Wonderful.” You grumbled.
“You owe me.” A brown haired woman hissed at Baiheng as you were carried into a nice, rich house by Yingxing. He set you down in one of the beds as other women who seemed to be nurses started working on you.
“Yeah, yeah, put it on my tab.” She rolled her eyes, taking your hand.
“You’re going into debt at this point.” The woman focused back on you, taking a deep breath. “My name is Lingsha. I’ll be the one making sure you don’t die, it would be rather unfortunate.”
You chuckled, wincing from the pain at the same time, “I’ll haunt you if I die on your watch.”
“I believe your husband is much scarier than you.” She hummed and got to work.
“Believe what you want, sweetheart.” You grunted as she grabbed one of her many metal tools, somehow putting on a mask and taking off your bandages before you realized, and taking out the bullets one by one.
The woman did her job well, much better than how any other doctor would treat you. She cleaned up your wounds nicely and added some special concoction that somehow managed to heal your bullet wounds faster than physically possible.
Were you going to ask questions? Absolutely not. If it did its job, you weren’t going to say a word.
“Thanks.” You told her once she returned from running a checkup on you, just to make sure you didn’t have any internal bleeding or other unseen issues.
“Of course.” She wrote something down on her clipboard, “And congratulations.”
Your brows furrowed. Congratulations? For what? “For surviving? I doubt that needs a congratulatory—“
“I mean for the fetus,” she pointed to your stomach. “9 nine weeks.”
“I beg your finest fucking pardon.”
She didn’t seem too surprised by your reaction, “You’ve been noticing the symptoms, yes? Fatigue, morning sickness, mood swings, food cravings, headache, backache.” Well, you had. You just assumed that you did something wrong with your body, it’s why you decided to change your diet.
Or maybe that was the cravings. It does explain why your husband gave you such strange looks when you’d constantly eat Chinese food with a cup of ice from that really nice gas station. It was just really—
Ohhhhh.
“Yes.” Lingsha nodded at your face of realization. “It’s exactly what you think. Now, thankfully the bullet wounds did not affect the fetus. I’d be more careful going forward.”
“Right,” you sat up, “because I wanted to get shot four times on purpose.” She dismissed your sarcastic words in favor of bringing Baiheng and Yingxing— who had both been kicked out because they were ‘distractions’— who immediately rushed to your side.
“Well?” Baiheng held your hand, “How are you feeling?”
“From getting shot or realizing I’m pregnant?” You raised a brow.
“I beg your pardon?” Yingxing blinked. Baiheng reacted the exact same way, “You— you’re—?”
“Yeah.” You breathed, running a hand through your hair, “I am. I guess. That lady—“
“Lingsha.”
“— told me I’m 9 weeks along.” You slumped back into the seat once again, sighing, and then pinching the bridge of your nose. It’s just one thing after another, over and over and over again. You wondered how in the world Dan Feng has been dealing with this for so long.
“Oh.”
“Uhm… congrats…?”
“Is that a question?”
“I mean…” Yingxing grimaced and rubbed his neck, only able to get out of your burning glare thanks to his phone ringing in his pocket. “‘Cuse me.” He quickly turned, answering and holding it up to his ear.
“What?”
“We have a situation.” Came the voice of a sort of familiar man. The only person you can think of to sound like that is—
“Is it worse than the one we have now, Jing Yuan?”
“I mean, if you count the boss technically getting kidnapped by the preceptors worse than what you have going on.”
One thing after another.
“What do you mean technically?” Yingxing demanded.
“I mean they all walked outside and got in some car I didn’t recognize. I’m not entirely sure Dan Feng is with them of his own volition.”
“You’ve got to be kidding.” You swung your legs over the bed, walking closer towards Yingxing with Baiheng following your lead. “Where are they headed?”
The white haired man echoed your question, only to be answered with a sigh, “Not a clue. His phone’s location’s been skewed. And they took off all the trackers on the car. They’re determined not to be followed.”
“That won’t stop me.” You grabbed Baiheng’s phone, ignoring the way the woman protested, but was too curious to stop you. She watched you as you scrolled along the screen, tapping several buttons, and then her jaw dropped.
“You put an tracker on the boss??”
“I put tracker on everyone I meet, who do you take me for?” You told her, finding your husband’s location on the map.
“Everyone?” Yingxing dared to ask.
You didn’t answer, alarming the both of them as you set the phone down on the desk. “Here. In the western part of the city where everything is abandoned.”
“Great.” Baiheng crossed her arms, “And we’re supposed to get him where we’re vulnerable and exposed?”
You shrugged, “I got some connections. There’s a storage unit of mine near there too, I know a shortcut.”
“Sure, hon.”
“I’m sorry, what the fuck?” Baiheng and Yingxing, after driving you all to the storage unit, stared at the large garage full of weapons. Anything they could dream of was there. Shotguns, knives, pistols, revolvers, daggers, rifles, swords. You had a Bazooka and a morning star, for fuck’s sake.
“Take what you need.” You told them as you walked through the unit, grabbing the weapons that you needed, and paired it with a much needed belt. “Trust me, it gets restocked every month.”
“What—“ Baiheng sputtered.
Yingxing interrupted her lack of words, “Do you have some kind of other life we don’t know about? I mean— yeah, we do— but you? You’re so… you’re…”
“Sweet!” Baiheng waved her arms. “And soft! You’re too soft and sweet and nice for someone to have this many weapons!”
You stared at them blankly, your lips parted, and then burst into laughter. “Oh! That’s funny! That’s hilarious!” You wiped your imaginary tears, “That’s cute you think you guys are the only ones with a double life.”
“Does your husband know?”
“Pfft, no.” You snorted, throwing them their own guns. “Well, yes, sort of. I joke about it with him but I doubt he takes it seriously.”
“Are you…” The purple haired woman stepped forward, “Are you in a gang?”
“Me?! Hahaha!” You were just having a blast with their baffled expressions, “Noo! No, not at all! That’s not my forte.” You packed another round of shells, “I’m an assassin.”
“WHAT?!” They both shouted.
“Yeah.” You shrugged, “Like an assassin’s guild. I can’t say much about it, they’d kill me, but you get the idea.”
“And you…” Baiheng stared like you’d grown three heads, “never thought to tell us? Did you not trust us?”
“Ah-ah,” you shook your finger, “Don’t do that. You all refused to tell me what you all did as your jobs, you and Dan Feng. So don’t try to act like you’re a saint.”
She went quiet, pursing her lips, knowing that she couldn’t find the retort. Yingxing simply held his hands up in surrender, watching as you gathered everything you think you needed, and then more. The two grabbed what they needed as well, packing everything in the car and getting in.
The car ride was tense, all three of you getting ready to what was about to go down. Your held your phone in your hands as you got closer to the tracked location of your husband.
“Are you sure you’re supposed to be doing this?” Yingxing asked hesitantly, glancing at your stomach.
“If you give me the helpless pregnant woman talk, your head is going on a silver platter.” You glared.
“Keeping quiet.”
ACTUAL PART LMAO IM SORRY I GOT CARRIED AWAY AND THEN I REALIZED I KINDA FUCKED UP WITH THE ASK SO HERE’S THE INCLUSION
During your first trimester, Dan Feng would, initially, internally freak out. Come on, who wouldn’t freak when their spouse is pregnant? He’s a mafia boss for goodness sake! He was built for parenthood! He was far from what anyone would call ‘good’
He would overthink. A lot. He’d do everything in his power to take care of you, but he’d still be thinking about the fact that you could get hurt at any point in time. And when the baby comes? So will they
It’s why he’d fully debate on retiring from his position as mafia boss. He refuses to let anything happen to you or his child. The work was simply too dangerous to risk both of your lives. And for what? Because violence is the only language some people— including him— knew how to speak?
You’d really have to calm him down. Dan Feng needs constant reassurance that you’ll be fine and that nothing will happen to you. Knock on wood every time he says something will happen. I’m begging.
He would love it when you hold him in your arms, pepper kisses on top of his head, and tell him things are going to be fine so long as you have each other. It was sappy yes, but it was enough to calm him down
Now, during your second trimester, he’d go all “protective husband mode” and it would irritate the shit out of you. You know he meant well. There are days when you want to slap him.
Some days he hovers too much. Other days he’s too touchy. Checking up on you too often. Going out on shopping sprees and buying so much baby clothes, food, diapers, etc that it could help fifteen other babies (you actually told him to donate to one of the shelters for single and pregnant mothers because you had so much)
Other days, he gives you the right amount of space. He’s nearby. Not too close, but not to far either. Those were the days you appreciated, even when you had to tell him you weren’t completely helpless.
Third trimester? Yeah, take back your words bud. You weren’t completely helpless, but boy was it a struggle. This was the only time you actually let him help you. Be it picking stuff up off the ground for you or making dinner. If you want to do it yourself, he stays out of your way, but he’ll be doing most of the work
He gives you really nice massages though. Ones on your back, your feet, your shoulders. He was a blessing in disguise, truly.
Every night, Dan Feng would lie his head on your chest to first hear your heartbeat, and then move it down to hear the baby’s. He would love to hear the sound of them moving or kicking him sometimes when the weight of his head was too much. He’d kiss your swollen stomach, whispering soft stories or songs to both of you.
Your heart would melt every time.
Now, when the day came when your water broke. Dan Feng was freaking out on the inside. It was like your first trimester. 10x worse.
He’d make sure you’d get the best room with the best bed and the best doctors and nurses. Oh ho ho? One of the doctors aren’t listening to you birth plan? He kicks them out with the fury of a thousand suns. The nurse isn’t telling you the procedure to ease your mind? Kicked out.
You cycled through at least five doctors and one nurse until they realized it was better to listen to you and him.
He stayed by your side the entire time you were in labor, letting you hold his hand, tell him the dumbest things, anything and everything. He’d push your hair out of the way, kiss your head, and told you how proud he is of you, even if you didn’t give birth yet.
“You made a miracle.” Dan Feng would whisper to you, “All by yourself.”
“You helped.” You croaked, squeezing his hand when another contraction wracked through your body, “We wouldn’t have this if it wasn’t for you too.”
“I played a small part.”
“It’s 50/50, sweetheart.” You pulled him down to kiss him, “You did just as much.”
“In conception? Yes, I made sure to stay healthy. But everything else is all you, my dear. Don’t give me credit where it isn’t due.” If you weren’t in agony, you’d protest. But you only kept quiet to endure the contractions, and he let the topic drop.
Dan Feng would stay out of the doctor’s way when you start to push, holding your hand or stroking your hair and letting them do their thing. Only when he heard the cry of his newborn did he finally break, giving you thanks and kisses, telling you that you did wonderfully, saying how lucky he was to have you.
He was completely adored at the sight of you and the baby, his eyes watering with tears as they lied on your chest. His violent view of the world completely changed when he saw the good. When he met you, when he fell in love with you, when he married you, and when you had their child.
Not everything was horrible. Not everything was doomed. Not everything was so pessimistic nothing mattered anymore.
You mattered. Your child mattered.
“My family.” He said against your temple, stroking the small baby’s back.
You gave him a tired smile, “They look like a deformed potatoes.”
He burst out laughing. What a great way to start his retirement

BANG BANG BANG BANG
“That sounded messy.” Your voice echoed through the phone as Dan Feng held it to his ear, his teal eyes cold as he stared down at the bodies. Especially the one he left alive, watching as they writhed and pleaded for mercy
He clicked his tongue at your criticism, “It wasn’t.”
“It sounded like it,” You huffed over the phone. “Four shots. How many people?”
“Three.”
“Sloppy.”
“I don’t remember you being on this assignment, love.” He stared at his screen like you could see him, moving towards the crawling body and stepping on their two-bullets-filled leg. They cried out in pain, gasping for breath, “Please— please I don’t know anything!”
“Lying won’t get you anywhere.” He fiddled with the trigger of his gun, “Tell me where their drop off is and I’ll let you run free.”
“He’s lying,” you butted in with a shit eating grin that he could feel. “You’re not getting free any time soon.”
“Love.” He scoffed, “Quit trying to mess it up.”
“I’m not messing anything up.”
“Yes you are— I can feel you smirking over the phone.”
“No I’m not.”
“Beloved, please.”
The person looked back at forth between the device and the mafia boss, confused and terrified that it seemed to be a normal experience for the both of them. “I… I don’t know where the drop off is, I promise! I was just told to meet here!”
You sighed and groaned in clear boredom, making it known you were getting impatient with how long his job was taking. Even though it’s been— at best— ten minutes. “What do you want for dinner? I don’t feel like cooking.”
“Whatever you’re in the mood for.” He stood up straight, cracking a smile when you boo’d him.
“You’re worse than a woman, you know that? When I ask you what to eat I don’t mean ask me. I asked you for a reason.”
“And I’m telling you that I’m fine with whatever you want to eat.”
“I hope you stub your toe on a metal pole.”
“That’s not very nice, my love.” He shot the person between the eyes, knowing they were going to waste his time by telling him the same thing over and over, and he wasn’t in the mood for torture.
Baiheng came over, taking off her dirty gloves and putting them in a bag, “Well, I got some DNA samples from these guys. I’m pretty sure I can trace them back to that gang or whatever group on our ass. Anything on your end?”
“No, nothing.”
“He got sloppy.” You said loudly, “You should put him in time out, who uses four shots on three people?”
Baiheng cackled at your words, “He probably needed to keep one alive!”
“And it was a waste of his time, he’s so indecisive.” You audibly complained, “Speaking of, Baiheng, what sounds good for dinner?”
“Chinese food.”
“See! She knows when I ask for ideas to eat, I don’t mean to turn the question back on me!”
Dan Feng shook his head, his shoulders shaking with silent laughter. You were way too used to his job, probably desensitized to it at this point, if you had the gall to critique and complain after his assignment.
“Baiheng! You should shoot him in the ass!”
Said woman was wheezing at this point, holding her stomach and desperately trying to catch her breath, “I thought you liked his ass!”
“Damn.” You grumbled, “You’re right, I do like his ass.”
“Why are we talking about my ass?” He raised a brow, “This doesn’t seem relevant to the conversation.”
“Shut up, you have a fat ass but you’re annoying me right now.”
“Okay.” He couldn’t stop the smile forming on his face, “I have to go, you whining baby. I’ll see you at home.”
“Yeah, yeah, blah blah blah. Love you or whatever.”
“I love you too.”
Baiheng finally collected herself, coughing and getting herself in order as she said, “Man, they’re too funny. How did you meet them again?”
“In a tea shop while it was getting robbed.” Dan Feng answered like it was completely normal to meet the love of your life in a tea shop specifically while it was getting robbed, purposely leaving out the part when you shot at said robber and then continued with his order.
“Because that’s normal.”
The two of them left as his other subordinates came in for clean up, nodding at him in respect, patting his shoulders and back as they went to do their jobs.
“I can’t wait to go home,” the purple haired woman stretched her arms, grunting and slumping back in clear tiredness. “I just want to take a long nap.”
“Do you mean my home or actually yours this time?”
“Yours, obviously.”
He rolled his eyes, stopping when he had another phone call. It wasn’t you, unfortunately, you were probably pouting on the couch or ranting to yourself about the call while cleaning the house.
“Hello?” He spoke.
“High Elder.” Came the gritted voice of one of his advisors— his preceptors. His face hardened when their tone was clearly irritated and very much angry, but then again, when are they not irritated and angry? “We need you to report back to the building. We have important matters to discuss.”
“I have one more assignment to get done,” he told them, glancing at Baiheng’s stressed brows. “I’ll be able to meet after—“
“Immediately, High Elder. This cannot wait.”
He scowled, “Fine. I’ll be there in ten.” And hung up.
“What is it this time?” Baiheng asked warily. Nothing good came from a phone call from the preceptors.
“They want me back at base,” he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Take Jingliu with you in my stead, I don’t know how long it’ll be.”
“Alright…”
Dan Feng, as promised, made it to the back to the office in about ten minutes or so. The scowl on his face never went away of course, it only deepened at the scenarios running through his head.
“What could they possibly want this time?” He grumbled to himself, walking down the stairs and hauling a right, then a left. The halls were decorated with the portraits of both past and present preceptors, all with the same haughty faces he wanted to slap
He fixed his hair, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door.
“Enter.” Came the voice on the other side.
He pushed it open, stepping into the very spaced room. The only thing he could see was the light above his head.. Everything was much too open and much too exposed for his liking. It felt like more of an interrogation than anything.
Knowing them? It probably was.
“Do you understand why we called you here, High Elder Dan Feng?” A hunched man came out of the shadows, his face marred with age and scars. Yet, his eyes held a deep, telling story of his experience in the dangerous world of gangs and violence. His hair was swept back into a short ponytail, his clothes pristine, and an emblem hung around his neck. Much similar to the group’s, only more detailed, telling of his position.
“I don’t.” Dan Feng’s teal eyes narrowed at the preceptor, his hands itching to curl. But he refused to show any emotions, not when they could use it to nitpick his brain. “You’ll make me aware, I’m sure.”
“Most certainly.” A woman chuckled, her voice grating on his ears. He glanced to his left, watching as she crossed her arms, an infuriating smirk planted on her face. Her eyes roamed over his body and she dared to laugh again, “You’ve been busy.”
“You’ve called me out of my assignment.” He replied with irritability.
“For good reason.” A middle aged man stepped into the light on his right side, a permanent frown on his face paired with wrinkles along his forehead. Telling of his less than pleased expressions over his years.
Dan Feng heard three more pairs of feet behind him, all stepping out to surround him. It was certainly more than an interrogation, perhaps an ambush was in order. He wouldn’t put it past them, the preceptors can find anything to dislike just because they could.
“What is this?” He demanded.
The old man, Elder Sutuan, stroked his long, white beard before putting his hands behind his back again. “A discussion about you.”
The woman, Elder Xuepu, giggled so insufferably he wanted to rip off his ears, “Regarding some personal matters.”
The middle aged man, Elder Shaoying, added on, “That seemed to interfere with your ability to carry on in your position.”
Dan Feng clicked his tongue, “There is nothing personal that gets in the way of my job. I complete my assignments, I complete the orders you all give me. What could you possibly believe interferes with my work?”
“You’ve been distracted, High Elder.” A preceptor behind him said. He didn’t bother to turn around as another continued, “You’ve become lazy.”
“Sloppy.”
“You’ve grown soft.” Shaoying scoffed, his brows furrowing so much his wrinkles multiplied.
Cue egregious laughter, paired with the click of heels coming closer. “You must be foolish if you truly believe you can keep anything hidden from us, Dan Feng. You’re not as slick as you think.”
He narrowed his cold teal eyes at her, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
She smiled so wide her bright teeth almost blinded him, “Don’t you?” Her head shifted over to Sutuan. “Isn’t he hilarious? Acting so oblivious that it’s adorable.”
The old man didn’t react to her taunt. “You know exactly what we’re talking about. Were you or were you not on the phone with them just a few minutes ago?”
Dan Feng had to actively stop his heart from starting to beat faster in his chest. There was no way that they knew, that they could know. He took every precaution in the book to ensure this would never happen. “Elaborate.”
Shaoying’s scoff turned into a full groan, “Don’t play stupid, High Elder. Your spouse is not as hidden as you think they are.”
His blood froze in his veins.
Xuepu cackled at his face, holding her stomach and twirling around him like it was the most entertaining game in the world. “Oh!” She held her head, “You should see your face! Simply priceless! Priceless!”
“Xuepu.” The old man snapped, watching as she pouted and went back to her place. His eyes focused back on Dan Feng, “You went out of your way to hide your marriage certificate from us. You went as far as to get it in entirely different city under a false identity. You forged your spouse’s IDs to ensure we would not find them. You moved them again and again so we could not locate them.”
There was not a hint of a wrinkle on Shaoying’s face. No, there was a wide smile as he took out his phone and held it out like a taunt. “You forget how long we’ve been doing this, Dan Feng.”
“Much longer than you.”
“To believe he thinks he could hide them.”
Dan Feng’s heart sank to his stomach as fingered tapped against the screen, dialing a number, and hearing it ring.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
“Sweetheart!”
Dan Feng never felt fear like this before.
The mute button was hit as the old man gestured towards the phone, “Well? Answer them.”
The High Elder stared at him, then the woman, then the others, before walking over towards the wrinkled man. His steps slow, precarious, like he was about to walk off a cliffside and towards the rocks at the bottom of crashing waves.
“Babe?” Your voice came again. Usually comfort, but now it made him dread every minute. “I’m here,” he told you.
“Okay, good. So, I ordered some Chinese food for us— because you suck at decision making— and you want your chicken fried rice with the egg-rolls, right?” You didn’t have a clue of what was happening. You were completely and totally unaware of the situation he was in.
He didn’t know if that was a blessing or a curse.
“Yeah.” He breathed with no air in his lungs, “That sounds good.”
You paused, then huffed, “Why are you sounding weird? Are you on another assignment?”
He didn’t know how to answer, “Something like that.”
“Fun. Tell me how it goes when you get—“ the doorbell rang in the background, startling you. “That was quick… I just ordered the food like two minutes ago…”
What?
His head turned towards Sutuan whose old, scared face shifted against the upturn of his lips.
“Hello?” Your voice was filled with confusion as you opened the front door, then alarm, “What the hell are you—?”
Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
The call ended.
Dan Feng lunged at the old man, “What did you do?!” He yelled, fighting against the preceptors behind him as they held his arms, pulling him back. “What did you do to them?!”
“Nothing that we wouldn’t have done with anyone else.” Sutuan shook his head, stroking his beard and closing his eyes like the High Elder wasn’t worth his time.
Xuepu was giggling, “Oh dear! Oh dear, oh my! What a shame! Such a shame, do you see what happens when you lie, Dan Feng? Do you understand the consequences?”
“They had nothing to do with this!” Dan Feng fought against the ones holding him back, making enough progress to take a step forward. “Nothing!”
“They had everything to do with this.” Shaoying crossed his arms, the wrinkle back in his brows, “No one entangles themselves with the High Elder and expect nothing to happen. You could’ve avoided this. You knew the consequences. You could’ve warned them.”
“You can still turn things around.” The old man held out his hand, “I made sure your spouse wouldn’t die, but now the rest is up to you, Dan Feng.”
“Up to me?” He snarled.
The old man nodded, “Cut ties with them. Officially. We’ve already transferred you into another sector not far from here, you’ll be reassigned to a new group. A new purpose. New assignments. This is for the best.”
“In what way?!” He struggled, “In what world is shooting my spouse the best for anyone?!”
“Don’t you remember that you didn’t clean up your crime?” The infuriating woman rolled her eyes, “Your spouse wouldn’t even be in this situation if you didn’t kill that man in front of them.”
“No,” the wrinkled man shook his head, “If you never went to that tea shop. They wouldn’t be involved.”
How long have they known? How long have they been aware? How long have they been tracking him, watching his every move?
“You have until the end of the week, High Elder Dan Feng.” Elder Sutuan told him. “After that, whatever happens is on you.”
A/N: CHILLS. LITERAL CHILLS. Also I did drink water! Thanks for reminding me anon! I forgot how dehydrated I was from my track meets lol
