It wasn’t Taerin’s first time being a student while simultaneously being a professor at the same time. He had known the workload he was taking on when he started his PhD in the fall, but he always seemed to forget how much marking he’d actually have to come the end of term.
His office at home was cozy, but he’d found himself pacing as of late. Maybe it was the cold brew he was drinking? Maybe it was staying up late until the witching hour for the last several nights? Despite the air conditioning running in his apartment it was still sweltering hot so that hadn’t helped. Or maybe the Strawberry Moon that had everyone crawling up the wall was getting to him too.
Regardless of the reason, the bags under his eyes were more noticeable than usual and his usually ruffled-but-neat-enough-to-get-away-with-it hair was in short, a mess. He packed his laptop and a handful of papers before dragging himself out of his apartment into the dreaded heat, groggily thinking coffee the entire trip to the cafe.
When he got there (he didn’t even remember getting there), Taerin stood dumbly outside the store. ...Maybe he should figure out what to get first before going in.

the floors clean. the trash has been taken out. what’s left of the baked goods are wrapped and tucked into her backpack. with the store keys in hand, devon makes her way out the front, being sure to turn all the lights off before stepping outside. she feels a presence then, but fits the key into the lock anyways. “sorry,” she says, true and sympathetic. or as sympathetic as she can make herself sound this close to a full moon. more than half the continent would feel the effects soon, if not already, and she’d already sensed a prick of heightened anxiety crawling its way through her system. “we closed about fifteen minutes ago, i just had to finish locking up. we’re open at 10am tomorrow, though, if you want to stop by then.”

It caught her by surprised, but after she acknowledge what was happening it came in a turmoil. Her only class that day became as chaotic as it could be the moment Laurel started to channel all of her students’ emotions inside of her head. It was more than she could handle, causing her to have a great amount of strength to leave the room without sharing that distress with others. Every step outside it was a different person that she would end up seeing memories and feeling their emotions. I have to go. It was all she could share with her intern and her employees at the front desk before she left the establishment. Driving was impossible, and as Laurel reminded that the beach was nearby and probably not as crowded as it would be by the weekends, that where she headed to.
At first, it felt peaceful but it wasn’t for long. Soon her own uneasiness wasn’t all she was feeling. Fuck. Brushing a lock of hair away from her face, she took a deep breath. Laurel just wanted to shut those feelings off, find a way out not to listen to everyone around her but it didn’t seem to work. Reaching close to the familiar face that was now giving her a new wave of emotions, she sighed. “I know I never talked to you about this, since it isn’t the kind of thing that you bring up in conversations at a bar but I can listen to you right now, more than I’d like to and...” she turned to face him, her light hues deep on his demeanor, searching for any changes in his expression as she talked to him. “I can’t stop it. I can’t stop feeling what you’re feeling right now.” Even if it was a cry for help, it was pointless there was nothing he could do to help her.
The case of the shapeshifters that were found dead reached him the previous week and had been a headache already for him, the constant questions and the worries that would surround him as the mayor, mostly due to the pressure James himself would place on him. Then, it was Maya waking up at his place and asking her father why the sky was so red. If he hadn’t gone through a full body check a month ago, he could worry about his heartbeart fastening. The full moon was close, the heat was horrible and the moment he got to the office, as people were constantly asking for him and phone were non-stoppable, he looked at his secretary asking for the papers and meetings he had for the day before his eyes scanned the room looking for Adrian. “Mr. Gwon, follow me, please.”
James entered his office waiting for the other guy before he closed the door behind them. “Have you found anything about the previous years close to the June full moon if we’d gone through this kind of scenario before? Because during my forty years living in this place, I don’t recall all of this...”, he wanted to say madness, but he kept that word to himself. “Perhaps I was too young to pay attention at it. Is everyone helping you? Is there anything I could do to help you with information for your research?”
November 8th. In the morning hours of a mundane Tuesday, astorians and every other person inhabiting Nova Pangaea is presented with the Beaver Moon. This month’s full moon is accompanied by a total lunar eclipse, meaning the moon, sun, and earth stand in a line with our planet in the middle. During Beaver Moon, it’s been known throughout history that werewolves usually present a protective behavior of their own, urging for security during this specific lunar phase. Therefore, it’s advised not to meddle with any packs during this time.
The eclipse happening alongside the Beaver Moon, causes the werewolves to be unable to shift, therefore they’ll feel their inner wolf trying to escape from its cage and being unable to do so; which enhances their frustration during the day during the full moon. For the other species, the particular shade of red that comes along a total lunar eclipse, will cause others to lose control of their own magic or nature. Vampires and Concubi will notice a shift in their hunger as they’ll desire to feed more frequently and urge for more, and witches that aren’t in control of their own magic or tries to use their secondary power, could lose hold of it.
Those who had the werewolf gene, and would, eventually face the transformations during full moon at November 8th, despite the effects of the lunar eclipse, the council still stated Alphas take to necessary precautions to ensure werewolves restrain themselves from being close to anyone other than their own pack - if they were in one, and for the rest of the population to remain vigilant.
