Water and Truth in Genshin Impact
I know there are more instances, but here are a few. I find it interesting how water symbolises truth in Genshin Impact, and I wonder what this means for Fontaine.
From Kaeya's lore
"If Master Crepus hadn't taken me in, I doubt I'd have made it through the storm that night."
It was raining heavily in Mondstadt on the night that Kaeya Alberich received his Vision.
The torrential rain that set in on Mondstadt that night seemed to be a sign of the heavens' grief at the passing of Master Crepus.
Consumed by guilt, Kaeya knocked on Diluc's door. As the rain poured down, the shroud of secrecy was washed away and all lies were revealed. Kaeya had finally come clean.
And when it rains, Diluc's line
Mona's hydromancy is also relevant to water and truth. In Unreconciled Stars, the main quest is called "What the Skies Conceal, the Water Reveals"
Here's Mona's line about receiving her Vision- "May your heart of truth be with you"
When asked why she denies being poor, she innovatively answers, "Beautiful veneers may obscure simple truths. Exquisite food may mask its nutritional value. One lives simply, all the better to expose this world's truths." But it's true, she's a truth-seeker. Dainsleif says "Within Monstadt, there are few who possess the ability and a desire to seek truth equal to hers." in her Collected Miscellany.
Finally, in the Hues of the Violet Garden event, a major plot point is the reveal of the truth by water; the forging blueprint used by the Kaedehara family as a reference for their failed Goshintou had been tampered with. And splashing water on the portrait of the Five Kasen reveals the truth, that Scaramouche was behind the trouble all those years ago.
