i want to frame your tags on the sexual racism post regarding codywan and other obiwan/CoC ships
i couldn’t figure out how to articulate my feelings on codywan but i agree wholeheartedly with what you said
#It's called sexual racism and i have ceased participating in co[//]dywan; ke[//]nfetti; or really any obi-wan/CoC content entirely because of it#The way so many people will uncritically and uncaringly perpetuate racial stereotypes and caricatures in and through fandom#Is exhausting and demoralizing and i hate having to see it. I actually avoid as much obi-wan content as i can full-stop these days#Because i associate his character so STRONGLY with fandom racism in general as well as certain Fandom Racists in specific#Fandom racism#Sexual racism#Twitter
yeah like. you know all those posts that are like "ships that you liked or at least were ambivalent about until the fanon ruined it for you"? for me it's obi-wan in general and co//dywan in the most specific that was ruined by the fandom, and it's because so fucking many creators and shippers are absolutely determined to be as racist about the clones (and other characters of color) as they possibly can, short of calling them slurs. it's wild. and fucked up. and exhausting. any amount of interest i had in that specific ship or obw in general has been burnt out of me because people just. refuse to listen or learn when people talk about this. and i'm not immune! i put all my co//dywan week fics (plus a cobikin fic) into the anonymous collection because even if they're not overtly racist, to my knowledge, they still follow a lot of common fandom tropes that i can't stand nowadays and don't want linked to my account or other fics. sometimes fucked up shit in fandom can spur on incredible spitefic that reinvigorates your love for The Thing and makes you remember why you loved it in the first place, but sometimes it just makes you tired and resentful and unwilling to even entertain the idea of The Thing anymore because it's been completely poisoned by bad actors.
in this case, i'm the latter.
