Stratt, as a character, is viciously and ethics-breakingly efficient. She has to be because all of humanity is at stake. So looking at the little things she does waste time on gives you incredible insight into the person that exists right beneath the dictator of Earth.

at hand by Ann Hamilton is a beautiful piece of installation art where the audience can step into the work themselves. Blank pages would periodically fall from the ceiling and collect on the gallery floor below. To then be tread upon and trampled by its visitors.

This was part of the Hirshhorn’s “What Absence is Made of” exhibit, which explored the many facets of blank space, emptiness, and void. It’s interesting to sit in this space, listen to the paper fall, and ponder what sort of message or idea the art was going for.

The paper is dropped by a mechanical arm. The artist is invisible. Perhaps it speaks to the absence of humans in work and the amount that is now done by machines. The accumulation of product and how much goes to waste.

I’m not engaging in any more discussions with people about the racism inherent to the narrative George Lucas created, but I do want to say that his treatment of the Tusken raiders, even their very creation, indicates his prejudice against native people. The fact that they are CONTINUOUSLY portrayed as brutal, unreasonable monsters is indicative that the racism in their creation continues today. The Mandalorian took a step in the right direction, but needs to keep walking if they’re going to treat the Tuskens as equal to the other species in the franchise
