Theros Lesser Deities
My DnD character from our Theros campaign, Glub / Hub Sternwhistle.
A washout would-be artificer, they’re a thief and spy from Ravnica that died on a job and ended up getting brought back to a sort of unlife in Theros as a slime slowly dissolving their own skull by fugitive Simic scientists. It’s okay, they got better later. They can dissolve people’s brains now. :^)
They’re currently a champion of Phenax that’s also moonlighting for Athreos. Paranoid to a fault, riddled with confidence issues (fluctuating between under- and over-confident with no middle ground), and prone to bouts of edginess, a glass cannon with demi-godlike powers that swears they still have something to prove.
Hi there. First of all, thank you for all the time you spend answering our questions! We had an interesting interaction during a commander game. I control Yomiji, Who Bars the Way. My opponent controls Athreos, Shroud-Veiled and puts a coin counter on my Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage. When Raff dies, does it go back to my hand or to the battlefield under my opponents control. Would it make a difference if Raff were my commander?
It depends on whose turn it is.
Whoever is the active player will put their trigger on the stack first, then the other player’s trigger will go on the stack above that trigger and resolve first. (If neither player is the active player, then it goes in turn order starting from the active player.) Whoever has their trigger resolve first will move the card out of the graveyard to the appropriate zone and then the other player’s trigger won’t do anything.
If Raff is your commander and you send him directly to your command zone, then neither effect will trigger here.
Theros Beyond Death References 3/?
Some synergistic cards for Athreos, Shroud-Veiled EDH. Athreos lets you abuse ETB effects and turns your cheap white/black removal into creature stealing.
Athreos may be cool, but Anubis is still my favourite God of Passage.
New deck!
Athreos is in a playable state! It's not complete, or tuned in any way, but it's playable I'll post the current list and desired additions / replacements if anyone wants em
You want sick plays?
I just used a Hell's Caretaker to grab back a Sun Titan targeting a Banisher Priest which targeted my own Sun Titan before casting Cataclysmic Gearhulk and then using the Sun Titan's re-entry after sacrificing Banisher Priest to target my opponent's Commander that he selected to not sacrifice in the first place to the Gearhulk. Then I swung for 5 damage with Athreos since I had devotion. God I love commander.
