Not to be a baby about it, and I get that this is at most a microagression, but I really really hate how practically every time there's a character with asthma or allergies in fiction they are a fat nerdy unathletic coward, who is annoying, often an asshole, usually smelly, often mentioned having a whiny voice, and is considered gross because they breathe through their mouth. Like it shouldn't be a big deal but as a Fat nerdy asthmatic kid who couldn't breathe through my nose due to allergies it really ended up taking a toll on my self esteem. It really sucked that people were conditioned not to take my disability (which asthma IS) seriously, and that it was -and largely still is- considered something that's ok to make fun of and seen as something that makes you grosser weaker or less worthy than people without it

Exercise induced athsma and heat/light sensitivity are so hard. I'm trying to walk home from the bus stop but I can't breathe because of the movement and the humidity and my body is so hot from the weather it feels tingly. I've gotta sit down and rest for a while. It's only a 15 minute walk but between the hills and the heat it's so hard. I've never really thought about myself as disabled throughout my life because no one ever told me I was, but now that I'm in disability circles here on tumblr and other social media I'm actually starting to realize I'm physically disabled. Like, I always felt guilty for using the elevator in public places because I felt like I was taking it away from someone who needed it, but now I realize I use the elevator because my athsma and weak knees make it hard to use the stairs and I AM one of those people who needs it. Sure, I can technically use the stairs, but it's easier on my body to use the elevator. I always assumed my issues weren't "bad enough" to be considered a disability. But now I'm realizing it doesn't work that way.
