"So, what're you in for?" James asks, seeming relatively comfortable despite being in a cold, metal cage. Having no choice but to watch as a girl was tossed into the room with him. He had been planning to make his escape while everyone was gone, but they came back a little too quickly.
Of course he'd get caught. Maybe setting off all those stolen fireworks near a busy, well-known eating establishment wasn't such a good idea without a better escape plan. But it was worth it to see the looks on the faces of those jerks!
The thing I'll never understand about tlok is the ABSOLUTE CHOKEHOLD the fandom has on devillanizing Kuvira.
And a lot of people argue that Kuvira is similar to Iroh, except any true fan of Iroh accepts that yes he did do terrible stuff, and he realized that and tries to attone for that with his every action. That's an arc that happens before we ever meet him.
I can not argue that Kuvira was a badly written character, she absolutely was not. She was a well written character. She was just also an absolutely terrible person, trying to conquer land she hand no phisical right to considering Aang and Zuko met an agreement with the Earth king over. She has just as much claim to Republic city as the late earth queen.
She fought that war because it was convenient and brought her power. There was an opportunity, and she saw that opportunity from the begining, she relyed on everyone letting her because the Earth Kingdom is collectively fucked in every avatars lifetime. She was a great villain (not my favorite in the series or verse but that's not here nor there), and reducing her to the homicidal dictator with a redemption arc as fanservice is a disservice to her character.
She did terrible things and needed to face accountability to her actions, just like Ozai, and Azula at the end of atla and zaheer at the end of season three. You can like her character all you want, but her actions should not be excused.

now i haven’t read a ton of korrasami fics but i haven’t seen many modern world/high school sort of au’s for them and i’m a sucker for those so i’m trying to write one currently.
i’m still setting it in republic city and the avatar world but minus bending so korra isn’t the avatar or anything like that but i’m working out plot reasons and everything so that it still makes sense.
republic city from what i understand (i’m in s4 of lok) is earth kingdom territory but was colonized by the fire nation i think? and then it became a city for a lot of people from all cultures. so i’m trying to bring in chinese, japanese, and some inuit parts into this au so that way i don’t make the same mistake a lot of modern au’s do where they americanize/white-wash a lot of their “modern” content despite it being for a cast of characters who are all of asian or inuit descent.
i just wanted to post this to see if there was any actual interest in this genre of an au for korrasami. and i wanted to try and go ahead and get my intent out there to see if there’s anyone who’d be willing to kindly let me bounce off some ideas so that way i can make sure i’m doing this representation as correct as possible. i am researching but if there’s anyone who is chinese (supposed to be the earth kingdom), japanese (supposed to be fire nation), or inuit (water tribe obviously), who would like to share some info or double check anything for me i’d totally be willing to chat or let you beta!!!
i just want to attempt to correctly follow the rep that ATLA/LoK offered even if the rep wasn’t as accurate as it could’ve been since it was butchered by white people. there’s a lot more i can do that bryke didn’t to try and portray this all accurately and i’m attempting to do that as well as i can with the resources and time i have! thanks!!
“it’s not your job to protect me.”
“i’m protecting us both.” this is the closest they’ve gotten to putting into words what exists between them. this conversation is dangerous, and iruka speaks in a hushed voice, in vague statements, to keep it from spiralling out of control. like a carefully contained flame, they’ve danced around the subject for years. innocent ( or not-so-innocent ) glances and fingers intertwined underneath the table- it’s easy enough to hide, so long as they refrain from mentioning what it means. and iruka is content ( thought he was content, but his heart is in his throat, his stomach twists with fear, with longing, with something unrecognizable, and he’s suddenly not so sure ) to leave it unspoken. but the closer lu ten moves towards saying it aloud, towards recognizing their feelings and the problems these feelings bring about, the closer they inch towards disaster.
iruka swallows the lump in his throat; he can’t quite find the words. he’s never been good at ignoring his heart, which he wears so openly, shares so freely with others. but this is about survival, and not just his own ( though, he has to assume the fire lord would surely have his head for this; the commoner boy who’s been caught fooling around with the crown prince ). he’ll learn to swallow back those budding feelings for the sake of them both.
“we can protect each other. so long as we-” iruka can’t finish, but it’s clear what he means. so long as we don’t tell each other how we feel. that way, it’s as if neither of them feels a thing.
If I did do an ATLA verse for ango he’s from a small village in Earth Kingdom territory. He’s renowned in his village and the ones in the surrounding region as the man (boy) to see when you have a mystery that needs solving. He’s not a bender, but he’s incredibly clever and good with a crossbow/bow and arrow, and he always finds a way to get himself into war-related shenanigans. He lives with his grandpa, but will JUMP at the chance to see the world beyond his small village.
@gadian-shin
His Mama would probably scold him for laying on the ground as he was currently doing but he was tiiired, and what she didn't know wouldn't hurt her. Besides it was earth, earth was good for an earth bender right? Maybe it was even better for him to sleep on cold soil. Actually, he wanted his bed but for his tired muscles the floor will do.
He had just finished all the work that needed to be done at their relatives small piece of land in the outer circle of Ba Sing Se. It was a mutually beneficial agreement they were old and needed help, while his family needed cheaper vegetables for their restaurant.
He stretched as far as he could letting out a yawn, he'd practice his bending soon he promised to himself. Working at the farm meant that he was allowed to have a patch of land to practice his bending. He had learned everything he could at the schools and he wasn't up for serving in the military, so he played around with his bending a lot seeing what he could accomplish.
