they laugh, i laugh, they smile and i quiet, nod as i listen to their story and eyes widen- ing when they get to the good part, staring in disbelief when the ending comes from nowhere.

i know things about them, things like their favourite tea but not their favourite colour, unfortunately. and every time i lose my keys, they know where they hide, they know where to look.

and i feel like im a planet in their orbit, locked in the heavens and i know that their lucky number ends in seven and i know a lot about them, when i think, but sometimes i forget how much love for them i hold

and then it strikes me, all in one go.

because this feeling of being a butterfly about to burst forth from a cocoon, shaking off my wings and fluttering wildly is all i know in this moment of irrationality. this one's a friend i want to keep, i think.
