So being an autistic kid in the 80s and 90s meant being left in front of old perry mason and dragnet episodes. Omg I sound like my dad...ew

Anywho watching and old episode of Perry Mason (Its like Law and Order but in the 1950s) they show a little town Cloverdale, Utah. This in fact is actually my hometown of Bakersfield California and this is looking east down 19th Street at H Street.

This intersection is where i spent most every day of my childhood in this store.

For those of you who don't know i am a musician and it all started right here in this building when I was 5 years old. That's right a guitar store in 1988 with all the sharp pointy metal guitars. That created this guy

executive dysfunction and me

i yearn more than anything else for independence and stability. i swear to myself that i have goals and the means to accomplish them, and yet i am incapable of moving forward it seems. i feel so stuck. i feel helpless almost. knowing what you need to do yet your mind does everything in it's power to not do it. it's like, if i don't want to it won't happen. and this puts me in a horrible position. as an adult, i never realized how much this was a problem for me until i started college. even now that i am medicated i still cant seem to focus on what matters. my tasks, my tasks that are so small and yet i can't even force myself to do them. it's as if now that i am completely aware of my own autonomy, my brain only wants to do the things that bring me pleasure or satisfaction immediately. everything else becomes a chore. even now i'm avoiding my tasks. i'm cooked, seriously.

desperately wish there was a cure for that ADHD thing where hearing people relay information you already know makes you want to kill yourself. bc the feeling is super intense and it's like jfc, stop it, this isnt that serious we are just bored, and superior about our communication skills, bro why is everyone so bad at explaining things, put an icepick thru me this is torture, etc etc....

Sharing special interests with your partner/bestfriend is the best.

Wdym she downloaded the fan game I'm hyperfixated on AND actually understands it? We can yap to each other about fnaf for hours and never get bored, and I love it.

turns out actually like writing things down in a big visual colourful way makes things feel far less scary and overwhelming, allowing space to actually see how much time exists between things! funny how that happens! crazy how it took me so long to actually take my OTs advice on this!

I stare at the list of actual chores I have to do around the house, such as hoover, mopping, recycling...

Then the list of things I've got to do for my own health such as arrange my flu & COVID jabs, my smear test, a form I have to fill in...

Then across to the list of things I've got to do Vampire related stuff that I've had on a separate list, like story writing, sketching, crafting...

And my first thought is to throw myself in the canal to avoid any of it.

Freaking love/ hate relationship with lists, istg. When people tell you to write lists to help with your ADHD and getting things done but they don't realise it can make it worse seeing all your jobs written down, as you can see all the freaking jobs you have to do and how many there are 😩
