I’m not a member of the WGA. What I can do to support the strike?
Be informed. Explore the WGA Strike Hub to understand the situation. Be sure to get your information directly from the WGA. If you’re a writer, don’t engage in scab writing.
Located near LA or NY? Join the picket line! The WGA writes “We encourage non-MBA members to show solidarity with their fellow WGA members and join the picket line or rallies.” Be sure to mask up to prevent the spread of COVID. @PreWGAStrike is organizing carpools for LA.
Not located nearby? Be vocal on social media! The WGA writes “We also strongly encourage members to use their social media to support members on strike. You will be able to find graphics in our Social Media Toolkit.”
The Social Media Toolkit says “Show your support for the WGA on social media using #WGAStrong and #WGAStrike. Tell your personal story, change your profile photo, or use the sample language and graphics [on the toolkit page] to create original posts.”
You can also involve your organization. Use this form to sign on your organization as an endorser of the WGA’s contract campaign and receive WGA updates on campaign developments.
You can also donate to film & tv professionals affected by the strike. If you want to support WGA workers on the picket lines, you can donate to The Snacklist. Funds raised through The Snacklist will be used to deliver hot coffee, food, snacks, and other necessities to strikers in the Los Angeles area.
Fiction podcast writers! With the ongoing WGA strike, now is the perfect time to join the Audio Alliance! It's a WGA-aligned group for scripted podcast writers, both indie and on networks. It's not a formal union and there are no dues - just a lot of solidarity and a goal to improve the fiction podcast industry as a whole. Here's the discord, where the organizing happens. All writers are welcome, including those based outside of the USA.
