August been wild to me, and it's only been 16 days of it

Climate change is wild, weird, and right now, right here, almost chilly.

Last week the high temperature was hovering around 38-39 °C, and that's normal for the end of July and into August, but for the past 48 hours and continuing through the weekend it's not going to get about 25 °C. The lows are equally scrambled with this morning having a temp of 12 °C. It's usually double that or higher in August.

I'm not complaining though, as it's given me an opportunity to air out my home and save electricity (and money) by turning off the A/C.

St Lide’s Day

Today is St Lide’s Day. Lide was an eleventh century hermit who lived on the Isles of Scilly and gave an expanded and cross-gender version of his name to the island known as St Helen’s. This rather strange transformation probably arose from the fact that Lide itself is likely to have been an abbreviation of the saint’s full name, Elidius - which is still a stretch but not as great a one as the Elid/Helen original. St Helen’s Chapel was a place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages and pirates were warned off attacking the island by Lide’s threat of instant excommunication. The Scilly Isles are also said to be the remnants of the mountains of Lyonesse, the mythical realm once ruled by King Arthur and long since sunk under the waves of the English Channel.

Apparently A rainy August/ Makes hard bread crust, whereas Dry August and warm/ Doth harvest no harm. Also a thunderstorm in early August means they will be commonplace for the rest of the month.

Over the duration of the month, our aeromancers have assured us that we will be experiencing very fine weather – above average sunshine and light rainfall, with temperatures dropping slightly below average towards mid-month. Towards the end of the month the rain will grow heavier as we begin our move forward into the first chilled wisps of autumn!

As we recover from JULY’S FULL MOON on the 29th, which peaked at 4:17AM in Aquarius, we can look forward to our next NEW MOON sighting on Sunday, August 13th at 4:48PM.  We can expect our next FULL MOON to grace the skies on AUGUST 27th 1950, with her initial appearance at 2:50pm, for those with keen eyes. Our finest diviners and seers have informed us that the moon will be in Pisces, and relay the following advice for all our interested listeners:
